The World Wildlife Fund ruined the history of Pro Wrestling.

I did used to have an easier time casting them as the good guys in all this, since WWE reneged on a number of conditions set forth. Then, WWF sold NFTs, so I guess I am a bit less sympathetic.

I only remember watching WWF less than a year before it became WWE, so it’s always been WWE to me.

The World Wildlife Fund ruined the history of Pro Wrestling. Or maybe WWE ignored a legal agreement they had made with the Fund and were called out on it.

I have to believe Vince had the idea for WWE or something like that in his mind earlier. He wants a global entertainment brand to be recognized, not just a russling company. The Wildlife Fund may have forced him to move quicker but Vince surely would have come up with a name at some point. It's not World Wrestling Entertainment, it's WWE. People call it WWE, non fans know WWE even if they don't watch.

The company has been in creative decline since then, ironically becoming far less entertaining.

Well, ignoring whatever pride or ego may factor into this with Vince the person...I feel it's too late at this point. We're almost equal to the time the company was called World Wrestling Federation (changing in 1979 from World Wide Wrestling Federation) to it being known as World Wrestling Entertainment or just WWE. Had it been closer to the time of the change, I'm sure something could have been worked out, but at this point an entire generation knows the company as WWE, and thus even if they had the option to revert, I don't think they would. I do wonder though as I've never researched: was there something preventing them from just adding another line in the logo to actually represent the letter E in it?

The copyright/TM notice at the end of the shows says "World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc."

The copyright/TM notice at the end of the shows says "World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc." Yeah, seems like a really vague thing to try and trademark. And, like the other thread, I’m on the side of “Vince was a prideful idiot whose ego was massive after WCW ended so he basically shot his company in the foot for no reason.” If this happened in 2022? Nick Khan would tell him to sit this one out and settle and he’d listen because Khan seems aware of the brand he’s helping run.

I remember reading that at the time they offered to let him have unlimited use of the initials for a million or so a year donation. Vince refused and went to court, and lost.

I still sometimes slip and say WWF. Of course...it will always be WWF to me in a way
Still they were forced to make the change, not like they wanted to. And the whole "Get the F Out" campaign I thought was pretty effective and catchy
