I have an outside choice: AJ Styles signing with New Japan, a very important part of their Western boom which went on to both influence WWE and eventually AEW's creation. That’s a pretty good pick because for as much as Devitt was a big part of Bullet Club, having founded it and all, a post TNA AJ Styles with a chip on his shoulder basically made the Bullet Club shirt a staple at wrestling shows.

As fun as AJ to WWE and Punk to AEW have been, for me there was no bigger shock than Kurt to TNA.

Ironically, as far as being a tangible long-term benefit for both the company and the wrestler, the easy answer here is Rey Mysterio to WWE, even though it didn't feel like anywhere near as big a signing at the time.
For guys that actually felt like major game-changers who could've viably stayed on top at their last gig, it's Angle to TNA or Mox to AEW.

Honestly, that’s a great call. Mostly because of what he was able to do in terms of the cruiserweight to get that division up and running but also with the Smackdown Six. And that’s even before we get into the fact WWE can’t seem to find the next Rey Mysterio so have to keep going back to the same Rey Mysterio. Some of that is self inflicted but still.
