It's a stupid thing to do and I'm no fan of his but it always boggles my mind to see how harshly other countries punish people for such petty crimes. He stole protein powder. He doesn't need to be in a jail cell or potentially serve five years in prison. That's ridiculous. There's a reason that Japan has like, zero crime. It's a combination of an honor-based society, and harsh penalties for doing dumb shit. It's almost like actually punishing people works... The United States has one of the biggest incarcerated populations out of any country in the world and that sure as shit doesn't help with keeping crime low.

Longtime resident of Japan here. The penalty for petty theft here isn’t years in jail. It’s usually a fine and/or probation. Japan does not have “like, zero crime” and the low-ish crime rate has nothing to do with being “an honor-based society”. And I’m not even sure what that even means. However, people here on working visas can have those visas voided because of any number of reasons. When that happens, they are often given the choice to leave the country voluntarily without being subject to criminal penalties and/or deportation. Cheers Thank you. I'd still like to hear if there's been an official news release from NOAH, or if any of the other wrestlers working with Elgin have been talking about the situation on their Twitter accounts.

The guy was one half of the tag champs, and probably in line for a big N-1 run for a company that is throwing anything at the wall foreigner wise (I’m sure he helped get Anthony Greene & Stallion Rogers over there this last tour). He seemed set to be a key player for NOAH, now who knows. A little bit shocked that AG is still associating himself with Stallion.

Elgin‘s probably sitting on enough to not exactly be Oliver Twist begging for just a scrap of powder though so I’m having a hard time feeling too bad for him in this case. Now I want him to do an Oliver Twist gimmick. He comes to the ring wearing scraps and a bowl and he just wrestles like normal.

No, no, Kitayama does Why Should I Worry from Oliver and Company.

Japan does not have “like, zero crime” and the low-ish crime rate has nothing to do with being “an honor-based society”. And I’m not even sure what that even means. And here I thought it meant they followed ROH’s Code of Honor.

I'm not going to hammer on him. The man has mental issues and needs help. I know that has become a catchall for when a guy screws up, one I can't stand honestly, but his past year alone has shown he needs help. A guy like him has had every chance in the world to "get help", this is just him. There isn't a medication or therapy in the world that can stop a guy from being a bad person I mean, I yell at people and get irrationally angry when I'm not on my meds. I'm a huge asshole when I don't take them. That probably would count to a lot of people as being a bad person and my meds definitely help with that.

For someone who apparently lives there, you don't seem to know much about it.

Fourth lowest crime rate in the world is considerably more than "low-ish." And I also know people who live in Japan. They routinely talk about how they can just leave their stuff in public without fear of it being stolen. Violent crime is almost unheard of. And nobody ever said that the punishment for theft was "years in prison" either, just that they were considerably more harsh. It's especially true for foreigners.

The former prime minister was gunned down in public earlier this month.

And Ryu Ga Gotoku told me street fights happen every five minutes in places like Kabukicho and Dotonbori.

Also, EVERY country has an honor system. It's a societal construct that's not mutually exclusive to the eastern hemisphere, unless you're thinking that like... those darned Canadians are godless heathens with no honor to speak of.

So the countries ahead of them must be even more stringent and punative, right? This is a few years old but it goes into some of the issues with Japan's crime rate stats
