I said this on Twitter and I’ll say it here…why is this news?
Netflix has 220m subscribers. It pretty much eclipses all other streaming services right now and likely still will. Why is losing a million or so in a year news?
I get that shareholders and investors care about this stuff but it’s such a small number compared to the wider girth of subscribers that it’s exceedingly lame that people take up column inches about it. Heck, Netflix stock went UP with this news by beating the loss estimates. Does that mean anything to consumers? Like hell it does.
Come back to me when they’re losing, like, 5m subscribers a quarter. That’s news, actual concern for our ability to use streaming services.

Binging can be fun, but something needs to change.
When I first got Netflix they had The Office, Parks & Rec, Family Guy, and some more of my favorites. Now they have exactly 0 of those shows.
I get that they’re transitioning from licensing classic shows to establishing a large library of original content, but they’re definitely struggling. Licensing Seinfeld was a good step to help with the transition, but even as a huge Seinfeld fan I can only watch so much of one show.
Really if they were going to cut off so much of their licensed content over the past few years they needed to step up their original content game. In that effort they have failed in a big way.

First thing I do when money is tight is take a look at what monthly expenditures are expendable and that usually means dropping a subscription or two for awhile, I don't think this is some mass revolt against Netflix or anything. Also, and trying to not get too political, but there is a war going on between 2 countries where Netflix is available. Well, it's not available for one of them anymore.

I think it’s just because it’s noteable since it’s the first time in over a decade that they’ve lost subscribers and now it’s two quarters in a row. Plus they had Stranger Things this quarter and still lost some viewers. Netflix seem to be concerned since they cut jobs, are trialing charging for sharing passwords and having an ad based tier Not going for a doom and gloom Netflix is dead vibe as there was always going to come a point when this would happen especially since the Pandemic boosted their numbers higher than they would have been and with cost of living getting higher streaming services is obviously the first thing you would cut of needed but I think that’s why it’s being presented the way it is

Which to us as laymans makes zero sense but that’s how it’s also being presented.

I think the whole "We're not gonna add ads wait yes we are" thing pushed people over the edge.
But yeah 970k is a decent amount, but not enough that Netflix is in danger.

I mean, they’re not adding ads if you have a subscription already. The ads are going to be on a separate tier like most other streaming services are. I’m not sure why it’s being reported any other way.

People are looking at ways to save money, and streaming services, when the vast majority of those big shows people want to watch anyway can be found other ways, who are also putting up their prices are a great way to make a saving.
I cut my Netflix off as they put the prices up. I wasn't willing to pay their new price so rather than spend an extra £3 a month, I saved myself £6. That counter balances some of the other things that have gone up in my shopping every week.

Netflix is pretty much WWE at this point. It was the big dog on the block for years, they’re currently doing okay with a bunch of increased competition on their heels, they’ve got more content than they know what to do with, and they’ve pushing controversial personalities like Chappelle and Logan Paul despite what critics say.

Its why we have inflation now, especially on groceries. Companies made crazy profits during the pandemic and now they have to make more, despite people going to restaurants again and cooking less.

Didn't the lose 2mil not that long ago? I mean this aint 2mil but still losing nearly a mil ontop of that is very notable especially when you are in depths of inescapable debt NetFlix put themselves in.
People are doing their damndest right now to try and save money and then take into account the landscape of their being way too f***ing many streaming services with quite frankly dwindling quality content especially Nexflix , seems like a real good time for that streaming bubble to start deflating.

Didn't the lose 2mil not that long ago? They lost about 200k last quarter and everyone treated it like that for some reason.

Doesn't help that Netflix is twice as expensive as most of the other ones. I pay almost as much for Netflix as I do for Amazon and Disney combined

I've never got why people have multiple streaming services all year around. I switch between them, I assume many others are now doing the same.

I've never got why people have multiple streaming services all year around. I switch between them, I assume many others are now doing the same. My parents and I split them, folks pay Netflix, Paramount and Crave (basically Canada's HBO Max) and I pay Disney/Star and Amazon. No way in f*** would I be paying to maintain all those subscriptions right now, especially during summer where I spend very little time inside watching TV.

I have my wife and kids who are all into different things, so if they go looking for something on a service I would’ve canceled for that month then I’d hear so much groaning and complaining that I just don’t want to deal with.

I watch a few movies on Netflix. I haven't been too impressed with the latest season of Stranger Things. Other than that, I watched the Transformers series and not much else. I struggle to even want to try their series since several of their series I got into only for them to be cancelled after a season.
