One of my favorite Bryan Alvarez lines was that Cole's bad commentary probably took more skill and effort than good commentary would.
Cole getting to throw off the weights Rock Lee style to prove it is just magnificent.

It's amazing what can happen if you just let people do the job that you hired them for.

When Lesnar got up right before the “Count faster!” shot with the title put him down again, Cole screamed “What the hell is going on?!?” with all the passion in the world. Like, the dude who’s been ringside for over 20 years is literally losing his mind at what he’s watching. That’s how you sell things.

I was hoping he'd take a swing at Corbin. I would've marked.

Seriously, when you can get a reaction like that from a guy who's pretty much seen it all, you know you did something memorable.

The highlight for me was during the postmatch of Ronda/Liv. When he and Graves were comparing notes, it sounded like a real conversation between two people, not community theater actors reciting the script. It was a small but refreshing change. That genuinely sounded like two guys calling an athletic contest. It was logical why they each had their initial position (Cole was watching Ronda’s shoulders, Corey was watching Liv) and Cole acknowledged Corey was correct when they watched the slo-mo replay. And they kept up their support for Liv but also acknowledged that Ronda should have won the title. It’ll take awhile to erase all of Vince’s shadow but the commentary thankfully seems to have instantly transformed.

Where are all those people who would make posts like, "All of you are overreacting, Vince doesn't make things bad!"?
They seem awfully quiet.

I didn't watch the show but I feel so damn vindicated by this thread
It is about damn time people started respecting Cole more
Firstly he was a war journalist before he came to wrestling, making him more courageous than a bunch of alleged roster tough guys despite being essentially a geek
Secondly anyone who saw his work on Vince free shows like the Mae Young or the Japan House show or the NXT UK tournament knew that Cole could be so much better if given a chance
Vince has always been the problem

Does my heart good to see Cole getting some props. I liked him and JBL together on Smackdown and thought he got unfairly maligned when he replaced JR on Raw.

I also didn't watch SummerSlam, but I'm kinda wishing I did now. I'm so glad to hear that what many of us thought would happen when Vince finally gave up control actually does seem to be happening.
Obviously it's gonna take a bit to all settle out, but hearing how genuinely enjoyable the show was, and Cole was, and the main event was, it gives me so much hope for WWE getting to live up to the potential it's had all these years. If it really was all down to Vince, like it sounds like it was, it might just turn into the show we all wanted it to be.
I'm genuinely optimistic. That doesn't happen often!
