Was this when HBK ended up as a cook in Titan Tower? Or was that a whole 'nother thing that was the 09 run, when they were feuding with Legacy. 2009 wasn't as good as 2006 imo. 2006 was fun, 2009 was clearly a case of "we have nothing else to do until mania season" for HBK/HHH

2006/07 DX I can still go back and enjoy even if some of the humour is a bit off. There is one promo that while good, is very double standard and that’s the one they do the week after Rated RKO had bloodied and battered Flair, Shawn cuts a super serious promo about how Flair was an influence on them and had become a close friend so now it was personal for DX to get revenge on Edge and Orton with Trips stood behind him with a snarling look on his face. It’d be amazing but for the fact that it was only the previous October that Trips had also bloodied and battered Naitch after they’d teamed up on the Raw Homecoming show and Shawn would do it on the regular during his and H’s feud in 2003/4

At the time I really liked it. I was 13 and grew up on my older brother’s VHS tapes. Pretty much was a sucker for any nostalgia acts during that timeframe.

On top of that, it coincided with the Guest Host era, so you had a completely neutered DX often having to interact with celebrities that often didn't want to be there and/or had no idea who anyone was on the show.

I actually preferred this version because of senile Shawn Michaels. It was completely ridiculous

I know for a fact one person who certainly did not enjoy this run: A young stage hand named Stan. (Oh and those other production guys that HBK kicked too I guess.) The stack of flying papers after the superkick was a great touch.

For me, it was a mixed bag. Loved some of it, cringed at times.
That said, they were stupidly over and sold a ton of merch, so they would have been idiotic NOT to milk whatever they could out of the DX brand.

Juvenile, but a big guilty pleasure of mine. Better human HBK doing silly comedy just hit the right notes for me. Plus after the reign of terror, it was somewhat refreshing to see a face HHH who wasn’t in the title picture. Angry Dad HBK selling the elimination chamber playset for Christmas was an amazing promo The Christmas version of the DX music killed me for some reason...

Speaking as a queer person, I found their segments to be colossally homophobic But it was hard to be too offended by it because they were so embarrassingly juvenile They definitely leaned hard into that way too many times. It's sort of amusing when viewed through the lens of, this was a group that in its original incarnation took the disdain fans had for HBK and Triple H's gimmicks not being macho enough for their tastes, played it against Sgt. Slaughter and Bret Hart's conservative, traditional character-types, and- I'll just come out and say it, D-X definitely heavily suggested they were all queer in some capacity. Triple H's bilingual joke, Chyna's leather outfits, the "degenerate" part of the name, X-Pac's bronco buster, and like goddamn EVERYTHING New Age Outlaws, really. It wasn't progressive, exactly, but you still had them taking a homophobic revulsion that contributed to Shawn's face runs not being as big as they could have been, and twisting it into a statement of defiance. Fans got into it from a rebellious standpoint, and it got over. Then you have them come back later for some fun stuff, but way too much "Vince loves cock", "Spirit Squad are gay, lol", and other crap like that. I get that Shawn supposedly had reservations about doing the same kind of sexual humor as they used to do, and that's fine, but this feels like an unnecessary direction to take them. There were still fun bits, like leaning into Shawn being an old fogey and Triple H occasionally having to reconcile his many horrible kayfabe actions with his face character, but it does cast a pall over things.

It was like he did not trust fans to understand he liked Flair unless he did that.

Absolutely awful imo.
I also really resented them trying to retcon DX as being a tag team in their original run rather than HHH being a henchman.
