Gotch, Robinson, Thesz, Wicks, Cardinal, LeBell. The generation who played a massive role in pro wresting go worldwide, and were the founding fathers of Mixed Martial Arts as we know it. All gone. R.I.P to each legend. It's so fascinating how much Boxing, Pro Wrestling and MMA crossed over. Maybe even more than the sides like to admit. Even Vince has a hand in helping MMA grow with promoting Inoki vs. Ali. Pro wrestling itself emerged from what was basically American/European jiu-jítsu too. Stuff is wild.

The evolution of all three are tied so strongly to the others, and in the ways that different countries and organizations tried to develop those ideas. You just can't separate them from their influences, and the fact Vince was the promoter behind Inoki vs. Ali seems too fitting to even be real. Like it's some made-up contrivance meant to link all three together and not a noteworthy, widely known aspect of the fight's history that just gets glanced by for how ridiculously it brings everything together.

I think Vince's presentation has had an enormous impact on combat sports and entertainment in general. Definitely more than many would want to admit. He understood how to make things feel like a big deal. Look at the production style of WWE back in the mid to late 90s and they were lightyears ahead of where a lot of other entertainment was at the time.

Half of the UFC right now is trying to be Conor, Conor was trying to be Chael Sonnen, and Sonnen was trying to be in the Attitude Era. And then there's how wrestling obsessed Pride and Rizin are...
