Going back to WWE was probably the right call for him if he cares about being near the top of the card. I love AEW, but I just couldn't see him not being lost in the shuffle there.

Also let me say this, and I don't mean this to be disrespectful or to start any argument. But Johnny Gargano and WWE needed each other more than AEW needed him. Johnny is a very good wrestler, who has been a... polarizing figure when not booked by Triple H. Johnny's style works better for the type of show Triple H wants to book. Will he ever reach his NXT peak? I don't know. But I think for WWE he stands out more than he would in AEW... and that's a good thing for both companies and both need things to make each different I don't think there's an argument to be had. AEW's about reached it's limit until a few years from now when contracts expire. I think there's still room to sign some girls and lower card names, mainly for Ring of Honor purposes, not really sure who is left that they could scoop up as a HUGE name outside of Windham out there now, but I think as far as it goes, Gargano in the HHH era just fits, he didn't fit with Vince and was never going to succeed there. Him waiting it out and playing with his new baby paid off lol

I'm sure Gargano got a large payday since WWE is desperate to get some of these guys back.

People like Johnny can come in and give credibility while they build up people who were booked poorly

Genuinely wonder if the plan was him debuting in Cleveland but he convinced them to wait cause everyone was expecting it. Rat Man Fools The World.

As much as Gargano probably wanted to debut in Cleveland, feels like a bit of a chess move where they basically still got him a monster pop while also maintaining the surprise element

People like Johnny can come in and give credibility while they build up people who were booked poorly The last few weeks are definitely showing me AEW is investing in their midcard and future acts for both their show and ROH on their TV and DARKs, WWE yes, just needs to go on a hiring spree and go "We're sorry" with a lot of the lower card talent even that Vince culled, because there's still plenty of purpose they can find out there, and there are a lot of talent they cut that simply are still out there on the Indies. I'd say that's off to a really good start on their end as well, injecting a lot of new blood into each show and even NXT 2.0 as NXT UK kinda gets consolidated...

It caught everyone by surprise Just like them my brain heard the theme and didn't put it together until like 4 seconds in and I was like wait what the f***. Just a perfect surprise especially coming off a commercial which they never do HHH is showing he isn't afraid of switching up the formula

I stepped out of my room and came back in right as the commercials were ending. I would have been kicking myself hard had I still been out.

Why this introduction worked imo. So many NXT alum come up with no build and no one explaining why you should care it’s just like look it’s price pretty. That’s all the context you get. Johnny comes in explains who he is. Gives a little back story and explains his motives. This helps the people who don’t care about NXT, which I think is a very sizable portion of the audience, a understanding of who this guy is.

Interesting that they started Gargano vs Theory already since they are clearly building up to Gargano being the new leader of Hit Row.
