It was and is the most successful gimmick character ever. Using his supernatural "abilities" was his prerogative as to where and when to do so. If he needed to be a badass biker and that took care of business, then that served the purpose. If he needed to go full zombie, then he could do that too. The lack of explanation and Calaway's total commitment to the character, regardless of what stage or presentation is what made it work so well.

He (as P.I.G.) thought Sunny was into him and got used by her too, so… And then turned to the comfort of farm animals a while after that. And then he became Naked Mideon, and didn't even get the naked bit right.

Heres how I justify it in kayfabe.
The business demands you to have a character. Mark Calaways was "The Undertaker". Everything was all mind games and for a show.
He was never dead. He was just into real spooky shit and used it to f*** with his opponents. In the ring, he was a normal guy who did certain things that "made no sense" (sitting up, the lightning, etc) so he could pop the crowd.
The urn? His parents ashes were in there. Due to his spiritual beliefs, he believed he got his power and motivation from that.
... f***ing hell. My head is fried.

Bitch does he have super powers or not and was Mideon possessed by evil spirits or was he a f***ing moron?

Not gonna lie, I like the idea of Undertaker being a highly manipulative cult leader who mentally f***s with/drugs his disciples to the point they believe he's a personification of death and also psychologically scarred his own brother to mold him into a demonic killer a lot more than "he's a zombie man who likes vroom vroom bikes".

Have we considered the possibility that Undertaker did genuinely have superpowers, but Mideon was still an idiot?

So how did the Royal Rumble '94 work in the "Mark Calaway was paying off production people" scenario? Did he pretape a video of himself swearing revenge from inside a casket beforehand to be played if he lost, or did he get a live video feed set up inside the casket for the very specific scenario that he'd be too beaten up to escape the casket but not beaten up enough not to cut a rambling promo about his metaphysical existence? And both options are predicated on Mark suspecting that he was going to lose, which is an awfully defeatist attitude to have going into a world championship match.
And did he pay off Marty Jannetty to dress up like him and wait behind the titantron to get suspended into the air right after his inside-the-casket promos airs in the event that he loses? Or in kayfabe did the production guys really get Undertaker himself out of the casket in the dark while the promo was playing and lift him through the air? Mysteries upon mysteries!
Anyway, Mideon's an idiot, of course.

I think there was part of that Ministry angle where they implied that Taker was buying way too much into his character and being super kayfabe about it. So, you're saying that Mideon's just a big f***ing idiot? But was he a naked idiot?

This is entirely my head cannon but I like to think that his parents and maybe Paul as well dabbled in the dark arts/witchcraft and were heavily influenced by spirits/ghosts/demons and that influence was passed on into Undertaker and Kane. So, yes, they had powers through the spirit realm. Like they're basically warlocks. Also in my head cannon, the ashes in the urn were actually his parents and their dark spirits were giving him power. There’s some really weird Undertaker comics from the late 90s that pretty much state that Taker is actually an ancient being from hell who got reincarnated into who he is in the “modern” era (i.e. Mark Calaway).

Even when wrestling breaks kayfabe (on TV at least), it's still presenting a universe that isn't quite real life. No-one ever says 'that move didn't hurt' or 'yeah there was a big crash pad under there'.
So even if Mark Calloway is a real dude playing a character, he could still have some degree of magic powers.
