I don't know if this is just an urban legend but I recall hearing that Jericho was originally supposed to be in the 4 way at Wrestlemania and there's even a poster for it but he was replaced by Foley when Vince convinced him to return for the Mania main event. That's never made a lot of sense to me though. Jericho was a midcarder and had no story with HHH/Rock/Show at the time. He would have seemed like such an odd man out at the time. Unless he took the time to Photoshop it, the poster is in his second book. Also you got to remember, posters are made many months in advance. After Austin walked out, like half of the 2002 posters have him all over them. I believe the plan was Jericho originally, but he didn't get over and WWE booked him like shit.

If Foley is being honest with himself, he'll admit his preferred WM16 plan was to appear with Jacqueline via satellite from WWF New York.
Serious question, though: Was his return for Mania after losing the retirement match the first time a wrestler actually lost some points among fans for not staying retired? It was already a running joke by this point that Terry Funk ignored his retirement stipulations, but no one actually got mad at him that I remember. It was like, "Oh, there goes Terry again." And no one flipped out when Savage came back in 1991 after just a few months of losing a retirement match. But Foley seemed to catch some legit criticism for it.

I doubt very much that Austin vs Big Show was the plan for WM2000 in February 1999, 14 months prior, in the Attitide Era. There is just no way they would be long term planning during this time
