An extra billion in a decade. That's grim. It took roughly 300,000 years for homo sapiens to reach the first billion. It's taken just 218 years to add another seven billion to that number. The population has doubled since early 1975. The actual rate of growth is starting to go down. The continent with the most percentage growth is Africa, but their fertility rate has been going down from 6.70 in 1975 to 4.44 in 2020, and will likely drop further. The global population will likely level off at about 10 billion.

The global population will likely level off at about 10 billion. The natural question to be raised is what is the sustainable global population total? Most experts agree that ten billion is about the limit, but only if the majority of the population is vegan or vegetarian and all land currently devoted to keeping and feeding livestock is repurposed to feed us. Since that's unlikely to happen, it's probably safe to say we're past long-term sustainability already.

At what point will it finally be acceptable for people to start eating each other?

At what point will it finally be acceptable for people to start eating each other? Its very acceptable, barring religio-cultural unacceptability in only a few societies. Edit: giggity
