The 2003 Rugby World Cup final I watched in the early morning at home in England but had to be at work around the time extra time begun. Ended up listening to the finish on someone’s car radio with a few other workers and my boss didn’t think I would come in until after the final so I probably could have gotten away with it.
Was on the schedule to work again when England got to the final in 2019 in Japan (once again early morning in England) but managed to get it off to avoid a repeat…but we lost.
Was at Highbury when Arsenal won the 98 league title. I remember not being able to get a program and the streets being absolutely rammed. And some random guy lifting me on his shoulders when we won. I was 13 at the time.
When Liverpool won the 05 Champions league I was at University and the University bar (in Birmingham). One of my flatmates was from Leicester and him and his friends were all Leicester fans. Apart from one who was a Liverpool fan. He was very upset at half time when Liverpool when 3 nil down and wanted to leave but we all persuaded him to stay. Glad we did because it was a great night. One Italian student didn’t think so though as he broke one of the bar windows in anger after the game ended.

The Yankees winning the 1996 World Series for a couple of reasons. The Yankees had ducked my entire life. Granted I was only 12 but the point stands. It is also the only sporting event I recall watching with my Grandma. I was watching on a little handheld antenna TV. She asked what I was watching and I told her. She turned the channel to watch the last few innings. This was monumental. That was Grandma’s tv and you never asked her to change the channel. When Charlie Hayes caught the final out, Grandma kicked her feet like a little kid. It’s a memory I still cherish.

The “Flu” Game. Though it was more like food poisoning I believe.
Anyway, when I was a 10 year old kid in the Chicago area, the Bulls were my life. Michael Jordan and the 90s Bulls were like superheroes to me. And during that time there were only two games in there entire dynasty that I was scared to death they were gonna lose before a game, that was Game 7 against Indiana and of course Game 5 of the 97 Finals. I remember I picked up from a day camp by my Dad, and he got a call from my aunt, who was frantically telling him that she heard Michael Jordan was really sick. I just remember the sense of dread, Bulls had already lost two straight to the Jazz. And those late 90s Jazz teams were beastly. And I just remember being so tense that whole game, but my hero pulled through and the sense of relief was incredible.

The fans celebrating, Boggs on the horse. The ONLY thing missing was Donny Baseball being there.

There’s so many. Like I’ll never forget where I was for so many events involving Newcastle (the comeback against Arsenal, the 3-1 victory against Arsenal at Highbury, the last minute goal against Feyenoord in the Champions League and so many more) so I think it’ll be easier to quantify one’s that don’t involve my team. The big one is the infamous Aguero goal to seal the title for City. There was a presentation room in the library at uni that you could book out to practice presentations which me and my mate had discovered earlier that year we could just book on nights/days of big PL fixtures and Newcastle games. We had every friend we knew over to watch the last day of the season and I paid very little attention for the majority of the game because I was watching the Newcastle game on my laptop (we had a slim chance of making the Champions League places but bottled it and lost 3-0 at Everton). I still remember slowly being sucked into the City game with everyone else partially because it was clear our hopes of CL football were over but also partially because I couldn’t believe City were throwing it away and Utd were going to win the league again (Utd were the best team in England pretty much for the first 20 years of my life so, naturally, I hate them). When Dzeko scored the celebrations in the room were mad (bear in mind that although this was a self contained room it’s still a library). When Aguero scored we went apeshit, about 30 of us jumping up and down like lunatics and hugging each other. What was funny was we were watching it through SkyGo on someone’s laptop hooked up to the big screen but others must have had the same idea and been watching on some erm, less than legal streams, because just as we started to settle down we heard celebrations from further down the corridor. Funny thing is that ever since that day you had to get a lecturer or seminar leader’s permission to book out the room as complaints had been made about it not being used for correct reasons. So I’m fairly sure Man City winning the title got me banned from my uni library. Ironically, I’ve got a very similar story, albeit the other way round. Will never forget the 03 RWC Final. I was 11 at the time and watching it with my Dad in the sitting room. When Jonny stuck it through the posts I was jumping up and down like an absolute radge on the settee. The only time me Dad hasn’t went absolutely nuts with me for doing that but he was too busy jumping up and down himself (on the floor, not the settee). The WC Final in 2019 however. I can’t remember what time the game was on but it must have been mid morning ish and I must have been on the late at work. But I live half an hour from the shop I worked at at the time. So I made the decision to go in an hour early and watch the first half in the staff canteen, go check the floor was okay, get a handover from the AM manager, and then go and do some work in the office for roughly the length of the second half for no particular reason. Really thought we had that one after winning the semi final.

England winning the cricket World Cup, 2019. My dad played for the county, & so I grew up with cricket trophies in the cabinet, pictures on the walls, & tales of past matches & characters my dad had played in/with. I never made it to the same level, but I always enjoyed the sport. I remember our high school cricket pitch was totally abandoned & forgotten, so my friends & I would go onto the grounds in the Summer holidays, fix it up, & then play from morning 'til dusk. I remember huddling round an old CRT in High School between exams to watch the 2005 Ashes series. I remember going round my best friend's house on a weekend to play Brian Lara Cricket on the PlayStation, complete with our own custom players. So the 2019 World Cup was being held in England, & I happened to have tickets for a few games. I watched England lose to Pakistan, & also got to see the mercurial Kane Williamson live as New Zealand beat South Africa. I also got to go to the semi-final & watch England trounce Australia, which was almost as nice as the hug my 4 year-old gave me when I got home. But nothing compares to the final. I had to work that day, but I asked my boss if it was ok to watch the game. I pushed my luck a bit when I turned up in a replica shirt - "no apologies" I said, which drew a chuckle. My best friend (same one as earlier), who now lives in Dubai, sent me a video message recounting tales past (we once hitch-hiked 300 miles to watch our team in a cup semi-final) & wishing England luck. The match itself was a rollercoaster, as all good finals are. It was ridiculously close, ludocrously close. I actually feel bad for New Zealand, as they were (and still are) a phenomenal team, & there were so many tiny 'what if' moments which could've easily gone the other way. It actually ended as a tie, & so we went to sudden death. My colleague asked me who I thought should bowl, & I replied "Joffra" (Archer). Didn't even hesitate. For Ian Smith, the New Zealand commentator, to call that final moment, must've been so hard. But I will never forget it as long as I live:
Smith: "This is the moment: it’s Archer to Guptill. Two to win. Guptill’s going to push for two. They’ve got to go. It’s… the throw’s got to go to the keeper’s end! HE’S GOT IT! England have won the World Cup by the barest of margins! By the BAREST OF ALL MARGINS. Absolute ecstasy for England, agony, agony for New Zealand…
As a broadcasting geek I always keep an ear out for commentary in a sporting event, Ian Smith's call of the final over was fantastic work, made someone who admittedly isn't a big cricket fan majorly invested.

I was there when Austin won King of the Ring
I'll always remember where I was when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004, Milwaukee Bucks won the NBA Championship in 2021, Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl in 2010

Joe Carter's Home Run in the 1993 World Series Game 6
Kofi Kingston winning the WWE Title
I was at both events in person so hard to forget
For events I was not at: * Kawhi Leonard's 3 point win against the 76ers in Game 7 * Howie Kendrick's Grand Slam against the Dodgers

I've got a few cricket ones. Someone's already said the 2019 World Cup Final, so I'll do a few others:
Dominic Cork's hat-trick against the West Indies, 1995. I wasn't really old enough to understand its significance but I remember my dad made sure I saw it on TV.
Toby Roland-Jones' hat-trick for Middlesex against Yorkshire in the 2016 County Championship decider. It was an absolutely thrilling end to the season and I spent two happy days watching it from the Mound Stand at Lord's.
And the second Miracle of Headingley, 2019. It had been a difficult few days for me on a personal level but it was such a joyous day of cricket, even if I couldn't be there myself, and every so often I go back and revisit the radio commentary because it was so very, very special.
