Interesting thing....he demanded for a trade, but a few days after demanding the trade, he calmed down and said that "he never really wanted to play anywhere else."
Or so Yahoo! Sports says in their article.
I mean, if Bret left, then the Packers would've probably been screwed this season....as they already lost Ahman Green, their star running back. Then again, they still have some pretty good running backs.....

Favre isn't holding the Packers hostage, their fans are. Because of their public ownership the Packers are more beholdent to their fans then any other NFL team. The fans, in turn, are willing to over look recient events for someone who put the team back on the map and won the Super Bowl. As for Favre's personal stats he had a decient season last year, so I don't get the whole he's washed up thing. He may not be an elite quaterback anymore but he's still good enough to lead the Packers.

I'm a Packers fan, and I fully understand why he's upset.
Basically, he agreed to come back and play this season because the team assured him that they would build from their performance last year (from 4-12 to 8-8) and make an attempt at a championship. They have done nothing of the sort.
From what Favre said, Randy Moss was available for a 4th round pick, and would sign a new deal with the Packers paying him $3 million. The Packers have, I believe, $20-something million in cap space. Favre even offered to reduce his own salary so the Moss signing would cause even less damage.
The draft? The first round pick was Justin Harrell, a defensive tackle coming off a season-ending injury. He played for Tennessee, and as UT is only about 40 miles from here, I've seen him play. He's good. But where's the offensive help? They could have drafted Greg Olsen, the tight end out of Miami, to replace Bubba Franks, who dropped damn near everything thrown to him last season. Instead he ends up going to Chicago.
If I had agreed to play again based on a promise of a revamped offense and a team that could legitimately contend for the championship, and then watched as the office did nothing, I'd probably be pissed off as well.
I'd hate to see it happen, but I wouldn't blame Brett if he did retire.
(And by the way, the kissing of Brett's ass is nowhere near as bad as the kissing of Tom Brady's. "The next Joe Montana" my ass)

Nobody gets their ass kissed like he does these days) And Brady is very similar to Montana in terms of success. So in some way, I can see the comparison.... Though Brady himself HATES being called that and has corrected anyone who has said that to his face

Brett Farve needs to retire. He's had a good career and done enough for the Packers. It's time for him to ride off in the sunset.

I will agree with you 100% about Manning. He was the big hero around here when he played for UT, but we didn't win a championship until he was gone to the NFL and Tee Martin was starting. Never heard of Tee Martin? Odds are, unless you're a UT fan, or a fan of whoever we beat for the championship that year (As in "Who the f*** is Tee Martin!!! ) no one else has either. To tell the truth, Peyton always striked me as a bit of a crybaby. He's always yelling at his line, regardless of their play. When he banged his thumb on someone's helmet, he was walking around the sidelines, looking like he'd cry at any moment, telling his backup to get ready. Say what you will about Favre, but I've seen the man cough up blood on the sideline after a hit and go back out and finish the game.

I have more respect for Bret Favre than I think I ever will for Peyton Manning.....for just the reasons that Joey Only stated above. Peyton just....I dunno. The numbers will tell you he's the most elite QB in the game, and he's HOF bound, the "next big thing" et. al.....but I just get the feeling he's.....like a spoiled rich kid. The Randy Orton of the NFL.
And the thing is, Manning has done a LOT for sick kids, and other charity work as well, which is why my feelings towards him are just inexplicable. Envy talking, perhaps?
At any rate, Favre is a MAN's MAN, and a truly durable human being. That being said, he's pulling a Montana here and keeping a capable starter on the bench in that kid's prime time years. Which was wrong when Joe Mo did it, and it's wrong here.
Geez.....never heard of "riding into the sunset gracefully" Bret?

This will sound mean spirited, but I'm hoping for a Zidane-like ending to his career (I dunno, he punches a ref during the Super Bowl and gets kicked out of the game)

You do realize that Manning has only missed one snap because of injury over the course of his entire career? He was never very mobile, and early on he most certainly did not have the awesome OL that he has now. Manning's been hit hard, A LOT.
