Strange topic, I know.
I remember back in 1997, Goldust/Dustin Runnels had a series of interviews out of character. He mentioned how Dusty was not a good father, was never there,. and how he had to overcome a lot because of him. But, they worked together in both WWF and WCW.
Then it seems they patched everything up before 2012. (the Rhodes Family/Shield feud).
Cody has gone on record saying how great of a father Dusty was.
I guess I am just confused is all.

I know that Dustin and Cody have different mothers. I, too, had heard about Dusty's relationship with Dustin, and I still remember the commercial for the Dusty Rhodes DVD and it was implied that Dusty and Dustin hadn't talked for years until a certain point.

From what I gathered, Dusty wasn't around much when Dustin was growing up which was unfortunately typical at the time given their schedule and I'm sure that led to some resentment over time. Dusty was a lot more around by the time Cody was born so they ended up having a very different relationship.

Different moms and Dusty was way more active when Dustin was a kid vs having already made his money when Cody was young

Wasn't there more to Dusty's/Dustin's relationship then The American Dream not being there due to his busy schedule. I don't think that should by default make him a bad parent. Lots of active wrestlers have families and they aren't seen as bad fathers. There must be something I'm missing here.

If that one Jerry Lawler promo had anything to do with it, Dusty tried to warn Dustin off of marrying Terri because she was an apparent gold digger. Though other murmurs say it was because Dusty had eyes on Terri but IDK.

But Dustin worked with jim in the early and mid 90's, and states otherwise. Maybe Dustin was battling some "personal demons" at the time?

They also had a falling out involving Dustin’s relationship with Terri. I got the impression Dusty wasn’t fond of her to start with but then there was something like Dusty and Dustin had plans, Terri called Dustin with a situation (I can’t remember if she was sick or what) and Dustin went to Terri instead of his dad. If I remember correctly, Dustin said they didn’t speak until he rejoined WCW and they saw each other in the back, where they immediately started crying and hugged each other.
I want to say this was on the Dusty DVD, with Dustin becoming emotional as he talked about it.

That someone had sex with Dusty Rhodes should be the discussion here.

Dusty slept in alleys and dined on pork ‘n beans. How in the world could he possibly have been a good dad?

Dustin and Cody were born 16 years apart - that's more than enough believable time for a man to grow and change parenting styles and skills.
EDIT: And in Dusty's autobiography (which I don't recommend, even as a big Dusty fan) he by his own admittance talks about his shortcomings with Dustin as a father and how he regretted how he acted and didn't want to do the same with Cody.

Was gonna say this. Dusty by the time he had Cody likely knew very well and regretted how he f***ed up with Dustin and didn't wanna do it again. Opposite Rikishi.

That someone had sex with Dusty Rhodes should be the discussion here. I would assume LOTS of people had sex with Dusty, he was the 2nd most recognized professional athlete in the world* at one point *This stat has only been claimed by Dusty Rhodes himself

I'd also imagine the pressure Dustin was in since he was wrestling at a time his dad was active vs when Cody broke in was way different as well.

Yeah more simply Dusty was around a lot more for Cody's childhood then he was for Dustin's.

Cody wins at Mania with an assist from Dusty's secret third son Solo Runnels.

How did Dusty react to the Goldust character? I know Lawler convinced Vince not to give Brian Christopher a gay gimmick (he and Scotty were briefly flirting with a clearly Russo-inspired idea of them being the twinkish boyfriends of hairy bikers (and IRL nazis) DOA) Jerry feared it could be a career killer for his son (remember its the 1990s). Whilst Dustin eventually made it work it was touch and go for a long time if Goldust was helping or hindering his career and Dusty with his experience must have had views on this.

I'm the oldest, and the space of time between me and the middle brother is 10 years, and we had VASTLY different versions of our mom. I had a bar hopping abusive drug addict in her late teens/early 20's, he had a mellowed out woman going in her 30's that was way more chill. I'm the Dustin, my brother is the Cody. I can totally relate.
