This game was released in North America in January 1991.
I know that when wrestling video games get released, they sometimes are outdated. But I find it odd that two months after Undertaker debuted, the roster was from from late 1989 to early 1990.
The roster:
Hulk Hogan (face obviously) Ultimate Warrior (portrayed as WWE Champion and as a face which he still was.) Brutus Beefcake (baby face but had to temporarily retire in July 1990.) Rick Rude (heel. Suspended in September in 1990.) Randy Savage (heel) Jim Duggan (face) Big Boss Man (heel? (He only turned face in February 1990.)) Andre The Giant (heel? (He turned face in April 1990.))

I think it was released in November-December 1990. After this Undertaker squash which I think aired in December www.youtube.com/watch?v=zU9EsrDG858 Vince shills it while they show the box cover of the game. It wasn't really that outdated time wise. Rude has his short hair cut in the game which he didn't get until after Mania meaning probably around May or June. So looks like they started making it spring 1990 after Mania and it was released in late 90-early 91. If anything it seems like they churned it out fairly quick. It was just a lot of things happened in that time with the wrestlers that were chosen for the game that led to the roster being outdated. Beefcake having his accident, Rude leaving, Andre pretty much retiring.

Unfortunately it was one of those games that it was far too easy once you got the hang of it

It really didn’t feel outdated at the time, IMO.
I’m very interested in the prototype, which to my knowledge has yet to be discovered. It was titled Survivor Series and had the Mega Powers as the title screen.

I really liked this game. The diagonal ring and the entrance music BGM was cool. Funny how content we all were with these shit games when we were kids.

My friend had this game. I borrowed it. Remember trading games? Anyway, I asked for it for Christmas and got the WrestleMania game instead, which was not as good.

I got it for Christmas 1990.
The only gripe I had, was the jumping out of the ring randomly and not being able to get back in if you were Andre the Giant.

Unfortunately it was one of those games that it was far too easy once you got the hang of it I have never beaten that game undefeated because I can beat everyone on my first try except 'Macho King' Randy Savage. For some reason, he'll decide to become a cruiserweight and run circles around me while elbowing me in the back of my head. I can beat him the second time, however. It really didn’t feel outdated at the time, IMO. I’m very interested in the prototype, which to my knowledge has yet to be discovered. Andre The Giant is unplayable vs. The Ultimate Warrior if you were to play against another human because of that very same reason (a reason that didn't apply when you played versus the computer, somehow).

I found it funny due to them wanting to make the game more challenging the further you got, that Hogan and Warrior both moved around the ring at luchardor speed. The secret to the game is constantly going for pins as it would make the computer less aggressive. Even the late match bosses like Hogan and Warrior would become fairly easy once you figured this out. I guess with the Warrior and Andre thing maybe they were basing it off the 1989 Survivor Series when Andre was counted out in under a minute when he couldn't get back in the ring after Warrior clotheslined him to the outside lol.

WWF wrestle mania for Nes seemed kind out dated to me to.

WWF wrestle mania for Nes seemed kind out dated to me to. The only thing that was dated was Bigelow's involvement, they should have replaced him with Warrior IMO.

Had this game as a kid and loved it. I could’ve swore you could get back in as Andre by climbing up the ring post, but I could be mistaken.

In ads that were in WWE magazine, they didn’t mention Bigelow at all. I attribute this to pettiness on Vince’s part but an argument could be made that Bigelow was long gone by then.
