What is the Doink incident and when did it happen? I thought I was all caught up on my Doink lore. The last night “Old Shawn” was involved with the company was the RAW, where Jericho disguised himself as Doink The Clown for whatever program he was in, HBK, highly inieberiated couldn’t understand that this was a one-off for Jericho and not a complete gimmick change and kept saying “They should never had made you Doink” repeatedly despite Jericho reassuring him that he wasn’t Worst part was that was the same night that WWF did the simulcast with the last Nitro, you'd think Shawn would have at least stayed sober for one of the biggest nights in wrestling.

Considering a lot of people have a relatively warped sense of Shawn, I doubt many of the listed things listed regarding Shawn would have happened. Yeah, if he was still on drugs, he likely wouldn't have lasted that long. But Shawn was never the belt mark that people try to claim that he was, outside of the egregious European title win. Otherwise you had a small group of talented guys in the New Generation that won the majority of the belts, and an otherwise lackluster roster who weren't draws. Didn't he have four or five title reigns in a row end without him ever having to take an L?

He’d have been fired. It wasn’t 1996 with Shawn or bust as the mantra. Brock, Goldberg, Booker, Angle, Jericho, Benoit, Eddie and more had been hired, HHH and Rock had reached the main event. Cena, Orton, Batista and Edge were future main eventers.
After being sent home/fired and his contract expiring enfant terrible HBK in fledging TNA or ROH would be car crash interesting. Might get a HBK/AJ match before it all goes sour. I imagine they’d be a few nightclub fracas and hotel lobby meltdowns on Hulkamania tours.

Didn't he have four or five title reigns in a row end without him ever having to take an L? He lost the IC title to Jannetty. He was stripped of the IC title due to a failed drug test, I don't see how this was in his control. When he came back, he claimed to be champion and lost to Razor. Vacated the tag team titles with Diesel for storyline purposes. Thankfully prestige was added back to the titles by giving them to the legendary Smoking Gunns. Forfeited the IC title after the Syracuse incident. This is the story that is highly inflated inaccurately. This wasn't 5 marines beating up a jerk Shawn Michaels. This was 5 rednecks beating up an unconscious Shawn Michaels, while also beating down Davey Boy and X-Pac. They also tried to run them over with their vehicle. Shawn was hospitalized and almost had his eyelid torn off. But hey, it's okay, because it's Shawn Michaels! Tag titles restored to Owen and Yokozuna after Davey Boy subbed for Owen against Diesel and Shawn. Again, it was a storyline. Lost the World title to Sid. Forfeited the World title due to losing his smile, probably the only time he may have just refused to lose, but it's disputable. Vacated the tag titles over the hair pulling fight he had with Bret backstage. Possible diva moment, but it appears this was a Vince decision. Lost the European title to Triple H. Lost the World title to Austin. Lost the World title to Triple H. Lost the tag titles to the Hardy Boyz. Lost the tag titles to Sho-Miz. So that's 13 (14) championships won, with 6 changes happening without "properly" losing, and of those, there's really only two I find questionable. Two were out of his control due to being suspended or injured, and the other two were for storyline purposes. Not denying that 1997 was a bad bad year for Shawn after clearly failing as a main event talent. What I meant about not being a belt mark isn't about how he lost, more about the fact that in a small pool of talent, he was going to be an obvious choice to be given a belt. Even if he was a belt mark, that wasn't going to fly in 2002 with several far more dependable and money-making talents.
