Jake and the Fat Man - while it was never a mega hit, it was still fairly popular and got 5 seasons It got overshadowed by its spinoff, that being Diagnosis: Murder with Dick Van Dyke. Too bad that show is kinda not remembered much either, though I loved it.

At least Alf came back in pog form. ALF is awesome and I hate that this is what The Simpsons has done to it. I find it really odd that Alf did as well as it did but puppetry sitcoms never really took off. There was an attempt with Scorch (or Scorched?) but outside of that it's been Muppettown, baby.

There was an attempt with Scorch (or Scorched?) but outside of that it's been Muppettown, baby. Some of it is probably stuff like how ALF looked as good as it did with that because they made very specific (and kind of perilous, though exaggerated by memes) sets to account for the puppeteer, but were not really great for anything else. So, you either make compromises on the side of the puppetry and make it easier to make for the rest of the show, or you focus on the puppets and have to work around it/build a bunch of new shit. It's a few layers of complexity over making a regular sitcom, and you have to have a lot of confidence in the gimmick to make that worth it.

There was Greg The Bunny and Unhappily Ever After I was like 12 or so when UEH was on and even I knew it was just a MCW ripoff. Now, I enjoyed it. But it was a ripoff.

Fifteen or so years ago, I heard a lady and her boyfriend discussing TV box sets at Best Buy.
"No," she said. "We're not getting ALF."
"But he's eating cats!" he replied with a very thick German accent. "It's funny!"
"No. ALF. I'm serious."
That's what I think of every time I think about ALF: a German dude who couldn't see his main man eat cats.

But he'd be so disappointed that as the show goes on ALF stops trying to eat cats.

Does anyone under the age of 45 remember the Carol Burnett Show?
Was watching something off Catchy Comedy channel, think it was Mama's Family, and ads for their nightly airings of Carol Burnett aired. And she had no clue what that show was.
I know as a kid in the late 70s thru at least the mid 80s it was reran in syndication. Like every night at 10pm. I would watch it instead of the news.
But feels like now it's semi spinoff Mama's Family is still remembered but the parent show is forgotten.
Also rarely see anyone mention Head of the Class.

I am 45 and I know of the show, never seen it though. Watched Mamas Family a lot though. Watched Head of the Class back in the day. Even remember the episode when Billy Connolly came in. Tried watching the show again recently and it didnt hold up for me.

Having just finished watching the bio-drama Nolly this past week...Crossroads.
Once one of the "big three" ITV soaps alongside Coronation Street and Emmerdale, If you hadn't heard of Noelle Gordon and her sacking, you've probably never heard of this show

Growing Pains has totally drifted down in the sea of all those family 80's sitcoms with a cheesy opening credits theme. Who's The Boss and even Family Ties are more fondly remembered, while the only things noteworthy from Growing Pains were Alan Thicke and Kirk Cameron (and even then, they're usually mentioned for things not involving Growing Pains.)

Loved the show and Carol Burnett. Still do. So it was at least airing in syndication in the late 90s/early 2000s where I was at.

Yes your last point is quite sad. He will only be remembered for something so vile. Of course I am referring to Alan Thicke writing the Facts of Life theme.

I'm 41 and my older sister is a huge fan of Carol Burnett. I have become one too. She's a legend and a comedic genius and The Tim Make's Harvey Corpse Show was hilarious.

Been watching a tonne of Cheers lately, never done a full watch through and currently on Season 7. Diane is the f***ing worst. But for a show that was such a cultural phenomenon, it’s one of the few shows I remember my parents watching religiously, I don’t remember it having any sort of lasting syndicated run.
I had seen episodes here and there on channels specifically dedicated to airing retro programming but I don’t remember it having any major syndication run like back to backs on TBS or something like Seinfeld, The Simpsons and even Frasier did

Debatable, but Tales from the Crypt. Still respected by horror fans, but almost no popularity in the mainstream anymore.

It was ok, but I don't give a f*** about Sam and Diane, and that's the whole point. I watched season 1. All's I could stand. I like Norm and Cliff and whoever Rhea Pearlman was. I've seen episodes here and there from back when it's original syndication run would have happened, so like 1990ish...never liked it then either, but I was like 7, so why would I?
