Real Madrid paid Chelsea around £100m for Eden Hazard and signed him to wages of like £400k a week. So as an overall package he'll probably have cost them around £200m by the end of his contract.
In return he's scored 7 goals in 4 years and only played 75 games (almost half of which were off the bench). To put in perspective how useless and far down the pecking order he's become there have been over 50 Madrid games were he's been on the bench and not even been used.
He was arguably a top 5 player in the world but the second that move happened he just turned to crap.

It's not the worst ever but in terms of personal bias, Elton Brand giving A Horford and Tobias Harris like 200 Million dollars while Jimmy Butler walked might be a specter that haunts the Sixers for a long time...

In fairness, Butler didn't really go out his way to make nice in Philly. Ben Simmons was still a Philly favorite and he was basically talking shit about him, talking shit about Philly hierarchy etc... and this is coming off bad endings with Chicago and Minnesota in like a 2 year span

Penny Hardaway and Grant Hill. They were supposed to be the future of the NBA and set the Suns & Magic back a few years Steve Kerr might be a good coach and a good player, but he a was an absolutely atrocious GM for the Suns. He traded away almost all of Phoenix's young talent in order to get a bunch of guys who were in the twilight of their career which didn't net them anything in the long-run. It was terrible watching that happen in real time.

Joe Smith 1 year deal for like $2M with the T'Wolves
How? Let me tell you. He signed a one year deal in his first free agent contract after he was the number 1 overall pick. He was a hot commodity despite not really living up to the number 1 overall label but people still saw a lot of potential. He took a really low deal with the Wolves which shocked everyone
Come to find out, he had an under the table deal that the Wolves were going to pay him a big deal once they had his bird rights. He was going to sign a few one year deals and then take the big deal. When his and KD agent left the firm, he sued Smith and snitched on the deal.
Stern was pissed as hell and stripped T'Wolves of their first round draft picks from 2001-2005. They did get back 2003 and 2005 but ultimately they got stripped first round picks in KG prime which f***ed them over in the long run

Wayne Gretzky’s original contract was a 20 year, 20 million contract. It got torn up when everyone realized it was insanely undervalued.

As a Sharks fan, 8 years and $88 million for Erik Karlsson. He finally played up to it this year, but this (and Vlasic’s contract) landed the team in salary cap hell, and the bottom of the league.

Chris Davis was paid 161m to average 12 HR, 46 RBI, and 152 strikeouts.

It’s this. Expecting to get 15 years out of any goalie is f***ing insane. Even the very, very, very best get like 5. 10 is highly unusual. Best way I can put it is that the injury issues Carey Price is dealing with now at the end of his career are the kind of injury issues Rick DiPietro was already having when the first year of his 15 year contract started. And even if he were healthy it was an absurd amount of time to sign a goalie who wasn't even top 5 in the league.

Penny Hardaway and Grant Hill. They were supposed to be the future of the NBA and set the Suns & Magic back a few years Grant Hill is one of the big mysteries of sports. Dude was really good when he was healthy but those foot and leg injuries wrecked his potential. wonder what would have happened if Shaq and Penny could have gotten along as well.

Joakim Noah's Knicks deal has to be up there. As does JaMarcus Russell with the Raiders.

That's why you don't often see goalies being signed on long-term deals, with the exception being the elite ones.

Not even close to the worst in sports mind you, but my Leafs have had their fair share of shit contracts over the years.
-Jeff Finger at 4 years, $3.5M AAV -Mike Komisarek at 5 years, $4.3M AAV -David Clarkson at 7 years, $5.25M AAV -Nikita Zaitsev at 7 years, $4.5M AAV

Probably biased, but Jacoby Ellsbury to the Yankees. That's my vote. You know it's a ghastly contract when a Red Sox fan favorite signs with the Yankees and not one Sox fan took umbrage with it.

Probably the worst Yankee contract of all time It was somehow a saving grace to an even worse contract, the one Cano wanted that he got from Seattle.
