The finale on Thursday
I legit thought this would show would tank. Definitely didn't think it would last 7 seasons, launch a spinoff (Georgie and Mandy getting their own show), and be as good and emotional as it has been.

I'm kinda freaked out by how much Iain Armitage looks like a young Jim Parsons now. There was a picture of the two of them together and the resemblance is scary.

I did too, I thought it might get a season or two and would just flame out. The characters were tremendous though. However, I'm not sure if Georgie and Mandy can make it 3 in a row. I love those two characters with the baby.... but Young Sheldon worked because of the entire case and the BBT nuggets that would come up periodically. Can they get a great case for the third series in a row and then have a good show with less connection to the original BBT? I'm not sure (but will watch). I had thought they weren't going to get to the dad's death, so that was a bit of a shock at the end of the last episode (even though I had known it happens). Depending on the ending, I might actually like Young Shelden better than the original BBT.

We know from BBT that he's the one that held everything together and took care of the family after George's death, they just all protected Sheldon from that news so he could do his thing. And kudos to how they handled George's death. That's how it really is unfortunately. One moment you're making plans and thinking it's gonna be a normal day, then you're hit with the news. None of them said "Goodbye" to him, it was just a normal day. The last thing I said to my dad was "See you tomorrow morning." We all wish we could get that moment that Hollywood presents, it was nice to see Young Sheldon present a loved one's death so realistic.

Both this and the preceding episode had me bawling. I haven't seen the show in sequence but I had remembered that Sheldon's father died at a very young age.

And they explained why for the majority of BBT, Sheldon had bad mouthed his dad. He completely shut down after the news of his dad's death. He never confronted his grief till later on, and only focused on his dad's shortcomings instead of the fact that his dad was a good loving man who did his best, and always looked out for his family.

I remember wondering "who the hell would wanna see this?" and realizing about 4-5 episodes in that they had something really good. I still rate BBT over it, but the margin is very, very close.

Any thoughts on whether or not the spinoff "George and Mandy's First Marriage" will be good? Honestly, Sheldon was the draw for "Young Sheldon while the spinoff is about Sheldon's brother and his life. Is it going to be interesting enough to be a worthy addition to the BBT universe?

It's tough to say. It'll need to basically craft itself as a unique show, different from the Sheldonverse shows that came before. That's the main reason Young Sheldon lasted for so long, it was distinct from The Big Bang Theory so that it definitely didn't feel like you were just watching the substitute of BBT when watching Young Sheldon. It's certainly possible, especially with one of the 2 main characters being female (played by the talented Emily Osment), but without any of its own charm, it won't have lasting power.

I really enjoyed the chemistry between the two actors of Georgie and Mandy so I think that will help getting people to give it a try. I think her parents were pretty good as well. It will be interesting to see.

Another great series finale in The Good Doctor. I really enjoyed this series and can't believe that Freddie Highmore never got an Emmy nomination for his role.
