The entire Outlaws shoot where they shit-talked HHH and HBK for the entire thing. Was this a segment on a show or an actual shoot interview? I've never heard of it. If we're talking about the same thing, it was a shoot interview that was recorded in some motel room and they was pilled out of their heads during it.

I have the Come Get Some Women of the WWF video and the Road Dogg and I think Jim Cornette’s comments about women wrestling has not aged well.

Even in kayfabe this one is just flat out evil. Absolutely, and a total over reaction over Mike Awesome's decision to leave ECW and actually get paid. I get it, it was shitty to leave with the belt, but the guy wasn't under contract and was getting Heyman's lies about pay. Genuinely surprised more people didn't stick it to the Cult of Heyman. No idea the residual ill-will given it's not like Awesome refused to come back and drop it or anything.

I'm forever amazed that Heyman's reputation with fans is so cheery to this day when he has more red flags than a Soviet embassy.

Cena constantly saying he'd never leave WWE during the Rock feud. Likewise, Rock saying he was WWE 4 life when Austin left in 2002. I see some kayfabe promo/comments here, so a real dark one: Blue Blazer on Saturday Night's Main Event saying he'll fly from the rafters to beat Ted DiBiase.

I think this is the shoot that led to the funny moment where Billy thought it was him and Bart who went against Bob Holly and Bart Gunn at King of the Ring 98. The interviewer tried to correct him but Billy had no idea and the guy just moved on.

The only thing that most wrestling fans could agree on was that WCW sucked. Hardcore ECW fans were almost a legit cult at that point.

Even back at the time, the major response from everyone online was "that was f'ing mean to say". A lot of criticism, even from a lot of ECW fans. What eventually happened with Awesome did make it even worse.

I’m sure Miz himself knew it was tempting fate to taunt Bryan about how his “boring but safe” wrestling style meant he had no injury woes in their worked shoot interview on Talking Smack.
It took four years but he tore his ACL (and was eaten by zombies straight after so DB couldn’t say “I told you so”).

CM Punk on CP Munk: "I'm split 50/50 on it. Some days I get real pissed about it, because it's disrespectful. I'm sure it's no secret that the dorks that run Chikara and I don't get along, so they're [sic] judgement on trying to "mock" me is a little off. Most other days I just laugh it off because nobody from Chikara will ever be over enough anywhere for anybody else to parody them" Orange Cassidy, practically the entire Dark Order, Claudio, the Young Bucks, Sami Zayn, Chuckie T, Eddie Kingston, 2.0, Wheeler Yuta, Ruby Soho... Also kinda prophetic that they mostly got over by ditching their Chikara gimmicks. (Yes I'm including Ruby in that because she absolutely hated being Heidi Lovelace)

Yeah I saw One Night Stand live at the time (channel flipping and caught it by accident, I was on a hiatus) and that suicide line was really sick even then. And was brought up a lot when Mike Awesome's demons overtook him 2 years later.

I couldn't stand Styles on commentary anyway but that line makes me not want to watch old ecw with him on the call.

I couldn't stand Styles on commentary anyway but that line makes me not want to watch old ecw with him on the call. I could only ever tolerate Styles when he worked with Cyrus. That was a great commentary pair. Styles on his own just irritates the piss out of me. I'm not sure what is, because he is a 'good' play by play announcer, but I find most of his solo stuff hard to listen to.

I unno I think the fact that it took that late into his career for him to suffer a serious injury is still pretty validating.

Maybe as a talent that came through the CHIKARA door but not necessarily a CHIKARA-homemade gimmick. Just my opinion though.

“We don’t run a sloppy ship around here” -taz (on wwe’s Covid cases, AEW would later hve several people off tv for Covid) “I’m glad Roh was bought so it wouldn’t exist as a some tab on a shitty app” - cm punk Wasn't the sloppy shop comment made at a time the WWE weren't testing or taking any covid precautions at all at NXT to the point it caused them to abandon using NXT talent on the main show, mid angle? Not sure having guys taken off TV because they were tested before a show and got a positive means it aged badly, feels like the testing worked to prevent mass outbreaks if anything. Yeah, there's a huge difference between "People on your roster get COVID during the height of the pandemic" and "having a too-permissive environment without proper safety measures that allows for multiple outbreaks." Like, when the WWE main roster shows moved from the PC to the Thunderdome venues, they started to have proper testing, masking, and safety protocols. And like AEW, while there were positive cases, these protocols helped prevent any big in-house outbreaks. NXT in the PC meanwhile continued to be a hotspot and continued to have outbreaks.
Just reminds me of the false equivalency people drew to Shad Khan buying a hotel from a private Saudi corporation (one owned by a prince on the outs with the current regime because of his more liberal and secular views at that) when people were pissed off about WWE's Saudi government-backed shows.
Back on topic and connected to this, Triple H's "we got a magic liquid" comment at the beginning of the pandemic sounded stupid back then. And several outbreaks later, it's even stupider now.

I'm sure there's a score or more of shots at WWF and WCW that in retrospect don't hold up. (while ECW was doing a lot of things better at the time...moreso 1995-96, I'm sure there's a lot of exaggerations at how better they were than the Big Two...)

I always thought Joey Styles was annoying and I never got why ECW diehards held him up as this great commentator outside of brand loyalty. He's so shrill and over-the-top. And also a real piece of shit on top of it.
