Seems utterly insane they're doing this at a time when Amazon is the one entertainment provider actually poised to benefit from the writer's strike due to Twitch's existence, just kind of an excellent way to scare everyone into dropping them for other places.
Edit: For bonus points they also added a policy that if someone terminates their Affiliate or Partner agreement Twitch will charge them $25.

What do they mean when it says "burned-in"?

What do they mean when it says "burned-in"? Ads can't be directly overlaid on the video / audio. So potentially someone could show a video ad in the background behind them, but having one overlaid on top of the footage of themselves is a no. It's a very blatant, "We don't want you doing this so we can instead run our own ads over top of you and not have to pay you for it," move.

Amazon tried taking a mile but they're backing off and might only take a foot.

The endless arrogance of tech companies to constantly declare themselves entitled to other people's profits for no reason and think everyone is just gonna roll with it never ceases to astound me. And the all time record for fastest walk back goes to, Twitch! Translation: "we thought we'd get away with it but we didn't. Sowwy uwu." And make no mistake, they're definitely gonna try it again with a policy that's still shitty, but marginally less so than this. It's the tech industry equivalent of writers submitting an intentionally crass draft of a script that they know won't get past the censors so they then submit the one they actually wanted so it seems milder in comparison. Except instead of jokes, it's wage theft. There's a reason why they were so quickly willing to roll it back.

Sadly they can get away with it until anything bigger takes off. They're the WWE of streaming platforms.

Amazon's arrogance is only surpassed by their stupidity. This is the last thing they should be doing when Kick is gradually climbing upward as a competitor. And although it's not perfect, youtube is still a viable alternative for streaming. It's laughable that they would think streamers would be blindly loyal to twitch.

I'm more surprised at the lack of anger at twitch turbo (removes the adverts on any stream you watch basically removing the need to subscribe to any channel to avoid adverts) than I am at twitch restacking the deck in favour of their pockets. this is something they've stealth launched, theres been no advertising of it in any way other than the small button on the desktop version of the site.
so the advert money (which is generally pitiful) will still be given to the streamer, but you dont need to sub to their channel to avoid the adverts now which removes a chunk of money from the streamer's possible pay out.
why pay for multiple subs to channels when this is cheaper? which is what twitch wants as they get 100% of the turbo membership money.

Thing that worries me about that I get the feeling they might start putting ads on non affiliated/partner channels sometime in the near future. So the really small streamers get nothing and what little audience they have will be turned off by ads

So the really small streamers get nothing and what little audience they have will be turned off by ads as a small console streamer who managed to get to affiliate, I know the struggle of getting to affiliate and I wouldn't have stood a chance of getting to the level I am if they stuck adverts on my streams before I got to the level of affiliate and I would have given up trying to get anywhere on twitch really quick. I can stream from both xbox & playstation without running it through a pc which means I dont have any of the random sound effects/animations that most streamers have but I wonder how long it will be before twitch puts a stop anyone having those available.

I don't get why Twitch thinks taking things off the table with no alternative, no good reason, and no expansion of something else is gonna go over well. They always just TAKE shit away.

In relevant news xQc's signed a $100 million deal with Kick (granted, it's non-exclusive), so that's definitely going to further incentivize people jumping ship from Twitch.

All the worst people are jumping to a platform entirely funded by crypto gambling that's illegal in many markets, at a time Crypto companies are finally being prosecuted by the US and other governments and people who promoted them are being subjected to civil suits.
Good luck in escaping the inevitable consequences of promoting gambling to minors, jerkoffs, have fun trying to relocate to the Balkans when legal action begins.

Twitch sure picked a weird time to pinch pennies and try to take a bigger cut from creators right when a new rival pop's up who have F*** You Money who could care less if they run at a loss for a very long time.

It's actually hilarious how much Kick's UI is a one-to-one copy of Twitch's with a green coat of paint on it. Amazon do leverage Twitch's tech as a package sold on AWS for other companies to use, I wonder how much revenue that makes in comparison to Twitch.
