Given the backlash the reign has received I thought it might be worth documenting. Not to celebrate it. More just to shed light on it.
Right now he’s at 208+ days. As of this OP he’ll overtake the combined reigns of Sting in about a week.
Here is a table of him along the 5 closest he is to surpassing. This table will be updated as need be.
Terry Funk 424 Days Dick Hutton 421 Days Jax Dane 419 Days Tim Storm 414 Days Trevor Murdoch 321 Days Tyrus 288 Days Christian Cage 245 Days Billy Watson 239 Days Sting 216 Days

I wish that Lou Thesz was around to see NWA Champion Tyrus. If he thought Hogan couldn’t wrestle I want to know his thoughts on Tyrus. LMAO.

Outside of a brief resurgence in TNA, has anyone cared about the NWA since the early 90's?

Outside of a brief resurgence in TNA, has anyone cared about the NWA since the early 90's? People were into Corgan's relaunch when it first happened, but then he pissed off every notable name he had into jumping ship, it got bogged down in numerous controversies, and then the Tyrus mega push happened.

He should lose the belt a day short of Sting. Even if no-one watches NWA anymore, overtaking Sting's reign is a rapture waiting to happen.

Outside of a brief resurgence in TNA, has anyone cared about the NWA since the early 90's? The Cabana-Pearce feud did an amazing job reviving it for a year. And Aldis was a great champion/representative, with the Cody feud being perhaps the highlight. Aldis coming to every city to defend it made it feel like a traveling big deal again, dude knew how to carry himself and had soooo many great matches.

Powerrr was solid for about a year and the Mickie James-booked all women's EmPowerr show was pretty good, too.
Then it all went to shit between the Pandemic, Speaking Out revelations, Cornette burning yet another employment bridge, and Corgan being a dumbass.

Powerrr when it started was really really fun, and actually a great counterpoint to AEW. Two very different promotions, but both entertaining as hell, and new episodes even hit live in the hour before AEW Dark (in the earliest days when Dark was trying really hard to be a thing) so it made for a blast of a double feature. The lower budget production worked really well to make it feel like an '80s territory LARP and they had some really solid talent. It would've been fun to follow if not for the successive shitshows and dreary nightmares that followed; by now it's just irredeemably not something I'm going near and shit went so poorly it made me go "Wow Nick Aldis got a raw deal" and I am a Certified Aldis Hater.

Which reminds me, I’ve always been curious about Cornette’s take on getting fired for saying racist shit - did he express regret at all or did he ´they’re out to get me’ like all the other bridges he’s burned? Tuesday were the low-key best wrestling days for a while. OG Dark was brilliant too, nice magazine/recap show with always a decent first-run match or two. Also wholly unrecognisable from the beast it became.

On one hand, fewer defenses means you don't have to see the Motherf***er make even an attempt at wrestling. On the other, every day he holds the belt is like a fresh line of piss on its legacy.
