USA giving up both Raw and NXT for SD is wild but a Monday without Raw is like....what timeline is this.
But yea if Raw leaves Mondays I would absoloutley if I was TK you immediately set aside whatever this thing about your NFL team and whatever and you put Dynamite in that primetime slot immediately.
Either that or Impact is gonna do it because that has been the sacred wrestling timeslot for so many...so I expect a bull rush to fill it if Raw leaves it.

I absolutely expect NBCUniversal to get RAW and NXT back for 2024 but yeah, if Monday Nights become free, WBD would be madmen to not ask AEW to put Dynamite or Collision there. And it wouldn’t be unprecedented, TK did want Dynamite on Tuesdays after Smackdown left that slot on USA in 2019 for FOX.

Advertisers still have a stigma against wrestling audiences which is stupid as shit as wrestling audiences are one of the few remaining loyal live television audiences… I think what also didn’t help was that WWE pitched Smackdown to be getting 4m a week when that only happened for the first two weeks and dropped to around half. Which for a Friday night, that’s still really good but FOX themselves likely overpaid for that promise (and potentially getting NXT, which did not happen). EDIT: Like, it was so good, it was winning them the night for a lot of those weeks. |

AEW can't move onto Mondays. The Khans own an American football team, and it would be a pretty blatant conflict of interest and against the NFL team owner agreement to counterprogram league games. There's a reason why Dynamite and Collision are on the days they currently are. It's because they are the only two days where NFL rarely (if ever) runs games. I mean they're likely expanding PPVs to one each month which will occasionally go against Sunday Night Football. Plus the NFL has started expanding to Saturday night games which will go against Collision. Plenty of NFL owners own other sports franchises and media endeavors that compete against each other. Jonathan Kraft is on the TKO Group Board which has programming currently going against Monday Night Football. I think if push comes to shove, they'll do what is best for AEW and it will be largely fine. The NFL has overlooked far worse. IF Mondays open up (and I think that's a pretty big "if" tbh), I'm guessing the Khans and their legal team will look over the bylaws about what constitutes "counter-programming" with a fine toothed comb. And, if they have to, come up with some corporate f***ery to make them compliant like Tony becoming sole owner of AEW while giving up any ownership stake he might have in the Jags. |

The big thing would be, considering what WWE were offering for Smackdown to FOX and what they got from USA, I’d say a lot of those companies would probably have a better and cheaper chance of just slapping a show from streaming like CBS just did with Yellowstone. |

I saw some reporting that they were hoping to get $300 million a year and ended up getting close with $280 million a year. pretty good considering it is doing the worst numbers it ever has currently isnt it? |

It's very interesting to watch: WWE gets a huge deal from Fox to get prime time network TV space, under-delivers the numbers they said would be possible in that slot, though still performs well relative to most viewership on a Friday, meaning SD is still very valuable. Universal then offers nearly 40% more to move it back to cable and thus a smaller audience. That gives us a window into Universal's priorities right now, but man, it really is incredible how the current landscape is basically failure-proofed for WWE. I do imagine Universal will do whatever it takes to keep Raw and NXT, but potentially moving them off USA seems like a "Bold strategy, Cotton..." moment. Lots of Raw's power as a ratings pull is how consistently it's been in the same place at the same time; certainly not all of it, but "Monday is wrestling night" is pretty ingrained. A move to Amazon would be forward looking in many regards, but also interesting to observe for how fans respond to a move to streaming. As for networks and their feelings about wrestling fans, I wonder what their research shows them about the demographic/economic makeup of the audience. You get pro sports drawing fewer viewers but getting more lucrative advertisers, and while old perceptions die hard I can't really believe that current media mega-conglomerates would still cling to them that much with the amount of money that's at stake in these rights negotiations. |
