I'm still disappointed that Square Enix canceled the remaining DLC episodes, though at least they compiled their stories into written form. Especially disappointed that they made the decision to cancel when the next episode was gonna star my girl Aranea. Yeah, it made no sense to cancel after all the work they put in and the story was really getting interesting

This looks good but it's amazing how they've seemed to have completely abandoned the RPG parts of the series. It's like if Resident Evil skipped 4&5 and just went from 3 to 6. I do miss the turn based style they had This so much, Final Fantasy is not the same since abandoning it. I wish they would've stuck with it, but I understand them wanting to get with the times.

I’m going to be super tired for work tomorrow. No doubt plan to play like 2 hours once it hits 12 tonight I remember back in my teenage days when I would alarm my clock 2 hours before it was time to leave for school to get a bit of game time in. I still do it before work sometimes every now and then when a new & exciting game drops. I refuse to get up any earlier then I have to for work lol In my brain, I can squeeze extra time for sleep whether it be 10 to 30 mins than wake up early

The comparisons to God of War and Game of Thrones seem about right
Probably why this game didn't get the massive market showcase like 15 did. While 15 ended up being a dark game, that game on the surface was the best bros game you could play
This is gritty and dark; I like it. Something different
Only essentially 3 hours in (2 from the demo and 1 today) but highly interested to see where this goes. Feels like it will be more linear like 13 which I don't mind and is a little more streamlined but still has all the Final Fantasy elements if that make sense.

I just remembered the FF7 remake is on PS4, and now I'm conflicted between FF15 and the FF7 remake.

In the meantime, I'm thinking of re-visiting XIII on the Series X.

I really miss turn based Final Fantasy games. I like controlling the team and I find them way more tactical than the action style where I just slam buttons and somehow make it through.
I'm enjoying FFXVI though. The setting is gorgeous and Torgal is the best boy.
I also loved FFXV. The story was nonsense and had obviously suffered greatly due to the development of the game but I had a blast playing it. I could have road tripped with the Chocobros for another 100 hours of stupid side quests and been happy. The Ignis and Ardyn DLCs were amazing too, IMO.

Same here, I much prefer the turn-based combat that the older games had. Thing is, all the other big releases are already using the same action-style combat, and even though God of War and Elden Ring are amazing games in their own right, I do appreciate changing things up a bit, and games like classic Final Fantasy, Yakuza, and Persona do this well.

Oh man… I don’t know how I’m feeling about the early game. The action-RPG gameplay is fun, but everything being chunked into very linear submaps isn’t really working with me.

This game rules so hard. The combat looks and feels so good that I actually bumped up the difficulty to enjoy it more, which I can't remember the last time I did. Series-best Cid. Incredible production values. A focused game with a beginning, middle, and end that builds on itself rather than horizontally-expanding open world bullshit I'll get burned out on by hour 20 or so. FOR SURE worth the purchase of my PS5, I'm having such a great time with it.

Although the combat system isn't to my personal tastes, I have to say that the boss fights are absolutely epic. I've done a few of them now and the way they flow from player controlled, to cut scene, to quick time event, and back to player controlled is seamless. It's all so cinematic.
I can understand why there were a few reports of day one PS5s overheating at the boss battles considering what the console is processing.
