I saw an interview with Yoshida and Clive's actor and he wasn't their first pick but I'm really glad whoever was had other stuff they were busy with because the performance is such a big part of Clive being so likable. They really could've just made him growly revenge man but then you see something like his face lighting up like a puppy's seeing someone from long ago and it's like WAHHH I JUST LOVE THIS GUY WHAT A SOFTIE Those first two hours really do shape the person he is He's not the kid he is anymore and wants revenge but still has a kind heart for those in need. He's not stand offish or even arrogant and not caring about others feelings. He's not a repeat of Lightning FF13 Part 1. They got better with her over the two games but Clive is def a good way in how you write the gruff bad ass without making them like a robot

I’ve moved onto really disliking, almost even hating, the simple linear tracks they put you on to connect the dots of the story, but the boss fights make up for it. Just finished one, and it was INTENSE. Is it FFXIII level linear? I don't mind linear---the classic FF, FF VII, FF VIII were pretty linear. But did have diverting deviating paths to go, things to discover and things to explore (like the optional Condor Tower in FF VII) FF XIII was just a big straight line.

You have a little wiggle room to move around and it spaces out the world but it leads to the path you need to go to

Clive is a great protagonist. He's easily in my top 5 FF protagonists already and will probably end up higher by the end of the game. Great voice acting for him as well. I like all of the major characters so far though. They're all really well written. They could just made Clive a one note simple protagonist but he has a lot of heart behind his appearance and nature Yup, that was the thing. You can't just want nothing but revenge, you eventually have to let your wounds heal and also try and move on.

FF14 was really good at making some nuanced characters that didn't just rely on typical tropes and cliches. Hell, it has some of the best villains in the series IMO. Good to hear FF16 continues the writing team's and localization's great work from that game.

Which I think they did well in 15 as well Ardyn was consumed by revenge to get rid of everything since he lost everything and while Noctis suffered a lot too, he still remained true to his own purpose in which he had his brothers to help him For a game that is playing it straight and is as dark as 16 is, they are doing a really good job of giving character motivations and goals without it coming off as dumb

I don't have a PS5, so it doesn't matter either way, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of RPG in this here RPG. Which seems like a shame. I hope the next one is more traditional. And multi-platform.

This might be the best FF since 10 for me. Don't get me wrong, I love 12 and liked 13 and 15 well enough but this is something special. The story, the characters, the boss fights and the goddamn music.
My ps5 says I'm 36% complete and 17 hours in but not sure how accurate that is. Strange how there is no in game timer lol. Anyway, I don't want this to end haha.
Things can change but this might end up as an all time great for the series once I'm finished.
Also this is easily the best Cid.

It'd be nice if it were multi-platform, but unfortunately I don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon. Other than pushing out PC ports, I have a feeling Final Fantasy is going to be exclusive to Playstation from here on out.

Some of the side quests are really horrible. Not horrible as in they're badly structured or have bad graphics or anything like that, but horrible in subject matter and really, really dark. I didn't expect a FF game to get quite as heavy and dark as some parts of this one does.

Past couple games Ifrit has become a major character in the plot.
Normally he's a beginner summon that's cast aside once you get stronger ones.

I absolutely love this game. I’ve not yet finished it, but I have come awfully close to being able to utter the sentence “When did the sun come up?” Some of the side quests are really horrible. Not horrible as in they're badly structured or have bad graphics or anything like that, but horrible in subject matter and really, really dark. I didn't expect a FF game to get quite as heavy and dark as some parts of this one does. I was not prepared for the ending of the The Playthings side quest. Even Clive was shook!
