I've said it before, Swerve is actually EVIL. Not in the edgelord 'i have to say sexist edgy bullshit' way like MJF does, but a straight up evil piece of shit who will break shit over your head with his toadies just because he f***ing can.

I'm just now catching up on Dynamite. The whole segment I was like, "Swerve is an evil bastard." But I was also like,

That felt like an old school Four Horsemen move. Really strong stuff.

Yeah, they let go of all of Hit Row at the same time (well, B. Fab first). But WWE apparently did see this as the main roster breakout star of the group as opposed to Swerve. More like Flop Dolla.

LOVED this segment, Swerve has legit got everything you could possibly want in a top level wrestler.
He's a great wrestler, he's a great promo, he looks cool as f***, he's young, he feels a different kind of heel to others in AEW. He comes across sadistic and scary, he's going to hurt you badly and find it hilarious as he does it.
AEW need to put everything into making Swerve a main event level star, he's boss.

Even if you've never seen a second of wrestling in your life I can't fathom how anyone picks Top Dolla as the star He's big but not muscular, and then when you see him wrestle he's on the level of Tyrus... and then he raps, and things just get taken to a whole new tier of bad This is one of WWE's biggest talent they chose over another talent whiffs of all time.

Push Swerve in the World title picture & push AR Fox to take the International title from Orange Cassidy.

Push. This. Man.
Also I will never get tired of Prince Nana, he’s such a good fit for Swerve.

I think we can look at Swerve as ticketed for the top heel spot without making it about MJF's heel character; simply put, they're two different kinds of heels, and that's more fun, anyway.
MJF is that vulnerable, "hurt people hurt people" kind of heel. The edgelord stuff was pretty clearly always part of this persona he crafted for himself as a way to deal with his own mental issues and self loathing, figuring if he just acted like the assholes in his life then nobody could hurt him anymore. You can still get a top heel out of that, as we've seen, but it leaves that door open for redemption if he gets his eyes opened to what it means to let some of that go, as we're also seeing...but still leaves him in a state where he could always regress. It makes for a dynamic, multipurpose character.
Swerve isn't interested in any of that; he starts off from a base of "I know how good I am" confidence that easily becomes arrogance, and instantly thinks his natural abilities mean he should get to do whatever the hell he wants, no matter who gets hurt in the process. Whereas Max might've hurt people because he was lashing out over his own mistreatment, Swerve hurts people because "lol you're in my way, say goodnight". Surprisingly over and successful tag team with Keith Lee? @#$% that, first sign of weakness in the team and he's out, because it's only holding him back, right? Darby is someone he should have a bit of a kindred spirit with, given where they both come from? Nah, Darby's a punk who'll take the spotlight from the man who actually deserves it, so he has to go, and if his buddy is an 18 year old kid who lost his dad, well, too bad, he's in the way, too, so he's going to weaponize that loss to ensure he gets the outcome he wants.
Max made himself a self-aggrandizing narcissist, complete with the need to emphasize how much "better than you" he is, while Swerve is just an utter sociopath who's fully aware of himself.
Now, I just need Jay White to get into a really good singles feud so he can solidify his own spot as one of AEW's top scumbags, because there's so many awesome interactions these three could have at some point.

After watching the entire thing again this works as well it did and recieved so positively is because and this comes from obviously watching the entire damn series a hundred times over this is very LU paced.
Stylisticly it will never be LU but this works so well is because this unlike your typical AEW let alone wrestling segment. This was allowed to breath and get everything across to the audience and all the little details that were paid attention to...like putting the photo where he found out his dad died...to forcing him to open his phone to call Darby , usually things like this don't get paid attention for whether it be time constraints on the segment or any other reason.
This is Swerve and AR leaning back into that world to tell this story.
And it definetly has not gone over my head how Darby and AR Fox kind of mirror Dante and Killshot with AR fox feeling forgotten by Darby to similar fashion to Killshot leaving him for Dead.

I've said before and I'll say again: Swerve has been the best thing going in AEW for the last year, bar none. Even when my interest is at it's lowest I always pay attention to his matches and segments. Hopefully, maybe, this will be around when AEW sees it too and starts pushing him at the level they should be.

Jay White, more so in recent AEW than even in New Japan, is very much a 80s cartoon villain brought to the 21st Century and I love him for it. Like, it almost disappoints me none of the people around him speak in stereotypical 30s and call him "BAWSE!" in the same way.

Also, "I'm gonna lay this down in the spot where you found out he wasn't here anymore." is some cold shit heel Jake Roberts would say.

I’m still amazed WWE gave up pursuing Jay White, I felt he would’ve been a perfect long term rival for Cody

Yeah, if MJF is a narcissist and Swerve is a sociopath, then Jay White is a megalomaniac. His entire run in NJPW was "I'm going to take over this entire company. I'm going to stab anyone who thinks I have a decent bone in my body right in the back. I was created in a lab to be the absolute antithesis and kryptonite of all your heroes in this promotion, right down to the way I avoid taking their signature moves, and the only people I'll abide are those who know to fall in line and do what I say. Oh, and every single thing I say? It'll all come true, one way or another." Fast forward a year, and it's "Welcome to the Switchblade Era." But he also does all that while acting like an absolute shitlord, and it is glorious.
