I get that Ian has his reasons for not wanting the gig full-time, and I respect the reasons, even if he's a big fave.
I have issues with Kevin Kelly, always have. I do hope that another option presents itself, but I also understand why Tony hired him, given his experience. It just isn't translating to commentary at the level AEW deserves or is used to. Even JR at his grumpiest clicks for me more. I guess he's at least better than when Mark Henry did it and legitimately sounded like he was falling asleep.

It's gonna suck the most because Ian and Nigel seem to have perfect chemistry. I feel like every week with Kevin and Nigel there's been like nothing really clicking in terms of banter, but with Ian, Nigel can be such a wonderful hammy heel commentator, the kind Graves wishes he could be
Maybe it'll improve if he comes back next week, but man... Ian not being there is gonna suck, it's been an incredible few weeks

Can't wait for Andrey el Idolo and Action Andy to have a five star classic.

Can we arrange for Ian to do the commentary over Zoom from his living room, like we're still on lockdown? He gets his family time and we get Ian.
Win win!!

I haven't watched New japan in a while and I haven't watched any Collision, but I remember him being very good. Has he gotten THAT bad?

Ian, if you're reading this, I respect you for recommending Kevin Kelly if he's you're friend and all... but man oh man am I sad you have a schedule that apparently pre-empts you from doing Collision full time
Because... you're just a better commentator for this show imo and you make everything feel more important, especially in chemistry with Nigel.
If I had to give Kevin Kelly the benefit of the doubt and wait a few weeks to see, fair, but so far uh... if I was giving a personal opinion, I miss you lol

Yeah, it's been years since I've had NJPW World, but I remember KK and Callis were a great duo in the booth.
Did he JR himself or just stop caring or what?

Between Kevin Kelly and Kevin Patrick, I think all Kevins should be banned from doing wrestling play-by-play commentary.

It's weird. I quite liked him in njpw because I watch rarely and he filled in the gaps. Now he feels like it's for his own amusement, he stupidly shit on noah (not in a friendly rivalry way) and spent ages talking about an onion. Somehow he kept f***ing up names too despite doing commentary for hundreds of Okada matches. Can't really remember anything specific in aew but he had bad chemistry with Nigel before his absence, seeing as Nigel was much improved with Ian seems likely that's more on Kevin.

He comes across like a guy who would do PBP on The B-Show during WWE's PG era.

I usually don't pay attention to the commentators too much. When everyone was hating on Michael Cole for years, I was just thinking, "Huh, I barely even noticed any of that."
But Kevin Kelly? Dude is tragic. He actively brings down the product. Please bring Ian back full-time, Kevin should NOT have this job.

Even if he didn't do the problematic shit, like let's just pretend he was the most normal dude ... He sucks at his job. His commentary seems wildly disinterested, confused, and bland. Nigel and Caprice sound like they're trying to get blood from a stone Get Ian on this show again.

Someone on Vow mentioned about how someone on their site gives KK bullet points and important info on wrestlers before every Collision because he wasnt really watching the product

It hasn't helped him a single bit either. Ian actually calls back to things, he has actual history with these guys he feeds into. Also he actively on commentary championed for Willow, Kiera, Mercedes, and Statlander to be featured more, let this man cook.
