I've seen people say he was just joking with the Freddie Mercury thing and that's probably true but what's even the joke there?
I don't get what he was going for. It's another example of him having zero chemistry with anyone in AEW. His stints on commentary are full of things like that.

Viewing party means we talked over the commentary most of the night but he. He didn't actually say this did he? Ummmm.....yeah, he actually did. That was the moment where I asked if we could just pull him off the booth. People say Tony Khan's not doing anything about CM Punk but the real problem is that he hasn't taken JR out behind the wood shed yet because f***ing hell.

Rough tonight, absolutely and completely out of it and seemed miserable with everything When he asked why everything was Gold with the Golden Lovers it was a breaking point, dude just fits less and less with modern wrestling
That explains why he has been much better on Collision(better than Kevin Kelly!)

He's been far more bad than good lately and while I could chuckle at past outbursts (because I'm a gremlin what of it) tonight was where he was a pain all through without any of the gravitas or legitimacy he'd lend by accident. Doing it at the biggest show in their history warrants a dressing down or firing IMO.

Yeah that's the problem, like it's just nonsense that shits on the tribute by being pointless. It's a shout out to an iconic show in that stadium and a major music star. What's there to even joke about there? Like yeah damn he's been dead for thirty years good joke Jim Ross. I'm surprised there were only three nods to Queen the entire show.

Him being hilariously indifferent to Omega getting jumped during their sit-down interview last week should have been a hint that he doesn't care much for the current product and is too set in his ways to pretend to care. Add this to how age and ill health also taking their toll and his sense of humor falling flat now his voice has lost the enthusiasm it had in the late 90s and yeah it's time to go. He doesn't seem to be the type of guy who wants to retire so maybe they can find him a backstage job or he could enquire about a Legends deal for WWE to do public appearances and talking head documentary stuff.

Yeah exactly, there were people online criticising Excalibur for his reply to him but what's he supposed to say to that? "No don't worry Jim, Freddie Mercury died of a tragic illness over 30 years ago so he won't be here tonight" Just bizarre. JR has no chemistry with anyone in AEW but with Excalibur it's even worse, it's like a form of anti chemistry.

Let me put it this way: this was one of his worst AEW performances, but I still was less annoyed with him than like, any time Kevin Kelly has done AEW shows.
Kelly is only not my least favorite AEW announcer ever because Mark Henry's few times doing it sounded like a blow dart with sleeping toxin had been fired into the back of his neck 45 seconds before Elevation began.

In all fairness to JR, he probably WAS tired and grumpy. A 71 year old who’s probably not in the greatest shape shouldn’t have been asked to make the trip.
Aside from that, JR should have been put out to pasture a LONG time ago.

Yeah, he's been open about not wanting to retire. With his wife dead, he has zero interest being at home by himself. All sympathies/respect to him wanting to be involved - especially if it wards off depression or the reaper - but his vast knowledge is better served as an agent or member of the booking panel (were there one) now. It also doesn't mean he's entitled to do it in AEW if he doesn't like the talent or vibe. If he wants to be involved no matter what there's Impact or smaller companies I'm sure would want his input if he's really wanting to give it.

I do totally get feeling like he needs purpose and a hobby, but it's not AEW's job to keep him pity employed while actively making the show worse and burying things that go on it. He's bad at his job. AEW is an internationally televised show that might be inking a billion dollar deal within the next year and it's f***ing pathetic that it gets dragged as a pity gesture for one guy who can't even act like he wants to be there. He might not want to be at home alone but it's not really coming across that he wants to be at work either.

The only time Mark Henry ever got remotely excited on Elevation commentary was when Wight started talking about food lol

JR needs to go heel again and see how it works out. It could be pretty entertaining.
