I don’t think that was Vince feeding the guy ear candy. I think he actually meant that and said that to keep the door open for him. I think if Mox were to go back to wwe, he’d easily be the Roman dethroner

Mox will never go back to WWE.
That said, Mox vs Reigns is THE story. Never in wrestling history have two characters been so intertwined, such a good contrast, and completely incapable of facing off.

I know a LOT of egos would have to be set aside so it'd never happen, but I'd love to see a non-title triple threat match between WWE Champion Roman Reigns, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, and AEW Champion Jon Moxley.
Was there ever a time where all three Shield members were world champs at the same time? Like I know Roman and Mox have certainly had the AEW and WWE Universal at the same time, but did Seth have the WWE Championship pre-unification at the time, too?

I'll never rule out anyone for the WWE just because money talks, and while Mox doesn't strike me as the "in it for the money" kind of guy, he does have a family now.
I think Vince will be gone and probably dead before Mox even dreams of stepping into a WWE ring again, though.

Didn't he work an absolutely insane amount of events in like 2016 or 2017? I remember hearing or reading somewhere about it, dude was an absolute workhorse in WWE and only slowed down because he was hurt.

I mean, he DID take him for granted. Whether he believes it in his mind or not, he factually did. That fringe main event workhorse can be a thankless position. So many guys, like Jericho, Angle, Benoit, Moxley, Danielson, Castagnoli, Rollins… They’d get put out every week (if not twice a week depending on how hard or soft the brand split is) and be expected to do the best (longest) TV match. And then do the same on the house show loop too. And of those, it’s only Jericho who hasn’t suffered a significant, months-out injury as an accumulating effect of that.

When Roman got suspended for adderall, Moxley spent about a month almost but not quite pulling full time double duty on house shows because he was champ. This was right as the brand split hit, and while also being the front-facing top guy for Smackdown and its tours, he was also making up for the lack of Roman as main event face on Raw house shows. This dude has been the go-to substitute make-it-right guy for top star f***-ups for years.

Mox MIGHT go back, for a Hall of Fame induction. Heck he light do it as a favor to Roman and Seth if The Shield get inducted.

Always been vaguely curious if they’d try resurrect the Ambrose name or just start calling him Moxley like the NWO if Mox were to go back to WWE. The last few times he’s come up on WWE TV he’s been referred to as Mox save for Cena.

And as mentioned, he worked all the dates possible you can as a fringe top guy like Kurt Angle did at one point. It is thankless at times, especially when it got nowhere near the gains Moxley should have gotten from that spot. Like, sure, he got a world title run from it but on the flipside, it wasn't enough to get Brock Lesnar to not co-operate with him for example.

Moxley was my absolute favorite when he was in WWE, so as excited as I was for him to win the WWE title, I was otherwise so disappointed with how they used him all the other times.
The Brock match could have been something wild, the feud with Seth, etc. Etc.
The heel turn in 2018 turning into a joke was like the final nail for me to be like "they're never gonna use this guy to his full potential are they."
And sure enough, a few months later hes making that kickass debut at Double or Nothing
