I heard on a podcast that this was actually rumored and a clip from another podcast where Tony Khan was actually asked about it directly was played. When asked Tony refused to clarify the matter, most likely just hoping to generate more attention.
But it made me think. How would this change the wrestling landscape?

8 months of posturing before announcing the return of NJPW World sans PPVs.

If it were to happen (and I don't think it will) I'd hope that Khan would have the sense to let NJPW largely carry on as it is in Japan as its own thing. Of course, we'd get more NJPW/AEW crossovers throughout the year but the majority of what NJPW does should be kept completely separate and without Khan directly getting involved in the booking.

I honestly think it would be bad for AEW at least. the Crossover is a big part of the identity and it basically being under the same banner would make the appeal be lost over time.

Know that whole fear about everything media wise being gobbled up by the major entities and killing off the smaller ones.
Yea that would in ways be this , is it interesting on paper? sure but putting that to real life is a very very bad idea.

He’d have to leave it as it is with current management in charge. Being as hands on as he is with AEW is impossible with the promotion in another continent and there being large language and cultural barriers.

One reason why people root against WWE is that they were "the biggest show in town" with little to no resistance in America and fears of corporative globalization arose after the idea of NXT Japan floated around years ago. The idea that Tony Khan would own 2 of the top 3 promotions in the world as a way to create an united front to battle WWE and fighting their attempts of a wrestling monopoly with one of their own can be bad to the wrestling landscape. That way wrestlers could make money either going to WWE or AEW and AEW having working relationships in Mexico and Japan extend their reach, which also limits space for competition.

It wouldn’t affect WWE at all and it would mean AEW being clogged up by NJPW wrestlers to help promote the brand. Add to that ROH titles and champions also being on the show and AEW itself would be in danger of losing its identity.

If he does it, for God's sakes, please let someone else book it.
Three AEW shows and ROH is already too much.
But seriously, is this even feasible? I'd imagine buying a business based in a foreign country that has existing TV and streaming deals, and that if I recall is owned by a company that also funds some other promotions, isn't as simple as calling Gedo and asking "how much?"

That would be a horrible idea and would not help wrestling. WWE bought wcw and ecw in the early 2000’s and I think it would be fair to say that did not benefit wrestling for years afterwards. The ROH purchase doesn’t seem to have been handled well, and also Tony Kahns focus should be on AEW, as it’s the company he founded.

It would be really bad for the global industry. NJPW needs to stay independent or at least separate from the Khans and McMahons of the world.

It's never going to happen. Japan is insanely protectionist about Japanese corporations being owned and run by outsiders. This rumour is just some dirtsheet writer blowing smoke.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Denver Broncos in the Egg Dome! IIRC, The Broncos playing overseas is crime against humanity.

It would be a bad thing. Buying ROH kept it from just being flat-out defunct, but NJPW's situation is very different. I also simply do not think Khan would have the time or knowledge of the Japanese wrestling landscape to run it effectively, and it'd seriously damage the Japanese wrestling scene across the board to have that happen to what is probably the top Japanese promotion.
