It's been very clear for a long time that his momentum's pretty much stalled out, and now it seems he's circled right back to, "Powerbomb someone a bunch in a squash," as being his thing. Kind of hard to have faith in that panning out or to care while he's doing it when we saw what that amounted to last time so, like... What else should he be doing?
Personally I feel like I'd stick him in a tag team for awhile. The guy can certainly work, but he's pretty bereft of a personality and having someone to play off of might help with that.

Wardlow and Jack Perry might be a good heel team. Part of me also wonders if Wardlow's kind of done everything he's going to do in AEW and if he'd be better off in IMPACT or WWE.

Get the feeling he’s going to go to WWE soon, but I don’t know what his contract status exactly is.

Find a top babyface that needs a vacation (maybe Hangman or Kenny once their current feuds are over) and have Wardlow murder them. Start a program were he hates everyone for loving MJF and forgetting about him after all that happened.
He doesn't have to win the World title, but that can be a good program for, let's say, Revolution. Then that babyface in need of a vacation can come back to feud with him, so he has something to do at least until the next ppv.

Turn him heel and have him go after MJF but with the roles reversed.

It sounds stupid little but it feels like things have been down hill since he cut his ponytail cause right now he just looks and acts generic as hell...

The MJF thing is what I think is happening since he has returned and has had "MJF" written on his wrist tape. The target is there, it's just a subtle thing at the moment.

I think they're starting to build up that Max's mistakes from the past are about to come back to haunt him. MJF even made a tweet last week asking if there was anybody in the company that didn't hate him. I think it's all gonna come full circle to book MJF to have time off, maybe with Wardlow giving him a powerbomb symphony and giving him a stretcher job, and having Wardlow be the first feud back

Despite the squashes being what he's always done they're clearly angling at doing something quite different with him with the MJF wrist tape, not leading the crowd with the Powerbomb Symphony and leaving abruptly through the crowd.
Not sure exactly how the road to MJF will materialise but I'm just glad he's not back in the TNT Title Picture.

On Collision, he should do another squash match against someone like Nick Comoroto. After the match, he goes to hop the barricade again, but CJ Perry steps in front of him. She says something in his ear and they walk to the back together.

The Snowman didn’t take my advice about pairing him up with Dark Order. I will say this, the dude coming out and being all business as opposed to the symphony bullshit or playing to the crowd, was the right direction. It sounds stupid little but it feels like things have been down hill since he cut his ponytail cause right now he just looks and acts generic as hell... His dress attire has somehow gotten worse over time. And unfortunately his hair’s currently in that awkward-growing-it-out stage. But I think he should keep growing it.

He's just not good enough in ring for main event level in AEW despite how good his look is. He was over at one point but that was because MJF was over and people wanting to see MJF get beaten up by his bodyguard was over. Could have been anyone in that role really. He couldn't even work a decent program with Joe.

Get the feeling he’s going to go to WWE soon, but I don’t know what his contract status exactly is. Yeah, got a sinking feeling we’ll be seeing ‘can’t believe they weren’t already picked up by WWE’ prospects like Wardlow, Hobbs and Starks follow in Cargill’s footsteps for a myriad of reasons.

Wardlow is one of those guys who looks great chasing a title but then when he wins it, he immediately runs out of steam.
I would have him tag with someone for a while, maybe Hobbs? Team Big Boi.

I will say if the plan is for him to feud with MJF I really, really hope it's through costing him the belt against someone (though under the circumstances it really shouldn't be Jay White) and then it happens rather than involving the belt. Partially due to just wanting the title reign to end without dragging on for like another six months, partially due to not really thinking Wardlow has the momentum or interest to warrant a world title feud.

I like this direction for the character, but his look desperately needs work. It’s so generic.

He needs to have a match with Samoa Joe and destroy him. I mean, not even competitive, Wardlow just absolutely wrecks him and leaves him a bloody, broken mess that needs to be taken out on a stretcher. That's the only way he'll ever get his heat and momentum back, eliminate what took them in the first place. Then you build up to a big MJF vs. Wardlow match with their face-heel alignments switched from last time.

It wasn't squash matches that got Wardlow over, it was the storyline with MJF and how everyone wanted to see Wardlow kick his ass that did. Bringing Wardlow out to do squash matches without giving him a story or character beyond the guy who does squash matches isn't going to work, long-term. I think they should fold him into the MJF stuff in some way, especially as Cole isn't going to be there every week.
