It was clearly a mix-up. The promoters thought they were The Guess Who, but it turns out they really wanted people to guess who they were.

Yeah, this has been an ongoing issue for years. Cummings and Bachman signed over the rights to the band name, but their former bandmates keep promoting appearances implying Cummings and Bachman would be there.

Making it even worse, I didn't realize Jim Kale retired in 2016, meaning he's essentially leasing out the name to a cover band with no original members at this point

They're also not the only older band dealing with scam artists pretending to be them at events. It's especially ghoulish when they pretend to be members of a band who died.

There are classic Motown acts touring today where not a single member who actually took part in recording the music they are known for are still alive.

I met The Big Bopper, Buddy Holly, and Ritchie Valens the other day. George: You already have an in!!! The same first name….Jerry! It worked when I met George Peppard last week. Jerry: George Peppard has been dead for years. George: Well, whoever he was, he certainly knew a lot about the A-Team!!

I'm reminded of how two future members of ZZ Top were briefly part of a fake version of the Zombies that toured America after the real Zombies had quietly split up. At least back then you had the excuse of it being the pre-internet age and people not necessarily knowing the difference.

This line up actually came around last weekend, I went caus tickets were cheap enough, as far as I know nobody did the meet and greet for them, we were there for the songs not the band itself. I did see that the singer has been with them for 15 years now and made two albums with the band, but the rest of the line up are all new, including former GnR keyboardist Teddy Zig Zag on the keyboards. Also Slash's drummer Brent Fitz plays drums for them now too.

The promoter should have known something was amiss when the band in question asked for plenty of sugar in their coffee, plenty of sugar in their tea, plenty of sugar to stand beside them, plenty of sugar to run with me.
