Trying to pick 12 guys for this just demonstrates how stacked AEW's roster is. As soon as I think of 12 guys to do it I remember another 6 I want to put in.

Alright, gonna do a compliment sandwich here.
Compliment: I LOVE round robin tournaments and am shocked that more US promotions don't do them
Critique: Putting Bryan Danielson, a guy who's coming off a string of injuries including a broken orbital bone, in a tournament where you KNOW he's gonna go HAM each night so soon after his last injury really does come off like "riding the horse until he literally can't go anymore" syndrome that promoters always do. Seems really short sighted and something that could blow up real nasty.
Compliment: The actual matches should be super strong since they'll likely all get time and TK is a good matchmaker. Plus, the tournament set-up can help hide his deficiencies as a storyteller since a lot of the stories kinda write themselves in these things.

I'll give it this, while it's Danielson and he's going to go ballistic with it, just the structure for this one in its own right doesn't really seem too bad since it's just five to six matches per person in the span of a month. It's not really heavier than a regular schedule.

A women’s tournament would take 10 weeks.

In Journey of Wrestling, Danielson won my Continental Classic with a perfect record and then on the Collision before his title shot at the New Years PPV, he’s injured in a match with Malakai Black to defend his title shot. Of course.

Our current entries are
- Bryan Danielson
- Eddie Kingston
- Mark Briscoe
- Andrade
Already a new thread on this but the winner of the Tournament will receive a Triple Crown Championship, consisting of AEW's new Continental Title, the New Japan STRONG Title, and the ROH World Title
If anyone beats Eddie Kingston throughout the Tournament, they will win the ROH and NJPW STRONG Belts, and presumably, this will follow until they are carried into the Final if Eddie doesn't make it.

I want having the belts to just be this massive curse where the champion always loses their match so by the end they've changed hands over and over and over and over.

I will say, on the basis of it being a potential World Title Match the winner would get, I felt like I'd have a narrower tree of choices on who would feasibly win
The winner getting a TRIPLE CROWN belt? It's definitely put this whole thing up in the air tbh, which I like

Khan’s putting his whole ass into this. Like, seriously, all the talk about “star v star” and “no interference” and such, like this could be something really good.
Even in the media scrum (which I never watch, but I had to to make sure this was an accurate quote based on a tweet I read), he was like “Put your money where your f***in’ mouth is and watch this damn thing”, presumably addressed to the people who feel that AEW has kinda lost its way a little bit.

The first four competitors announced already feel like a pretty great field is developing. I'm really curious if Kota is in this and who else is. Now that we know it's not MJF centered, I'm interested as well, because I thought it'd be where all of the people who want him and his belt would end up and it's not, because the belt and MJF isn't the end goal of the Continental Classic.

I don't think it needed to involve literal titles, but I'm still interested in how they do this.

They mentioned time limits yet? You'd think they will want a few draws so as to keep it interesting. But 20 minute time limits draws don't seem to wise for tv. 15 minutes seems best for me

I’m very glad AEW is doing this tournament and am super excited for it but— it’s kind of absurd that their G1 starts in two days and we don’t know who is in it yet aside from four guys. I’d be even more hyped if I had any idea who I was going to see wrestle!

I’d be even more hyped if I had any idea who I was going to see wrestle! That's the beauty of the G1. You get the brackets and you get hyped! I think they should have taken a few minutes to hype the rest of the participants on Full Gear

Having Briscoe and Andrade in it makes me worried we’re not going to get all the top guys as I was hoping.

I’d be even more hyped if I had any idea who I was going to see wrestle! Ddt's version also starts next weekend and their entrants were announced a month ago. It's sort of forced on them to leave it late to fit between ppvs, not give away match outcomes/signings and possibly the health of entrants. Will be interesting to see how it goes and how it's received. I can see the line up being controversial. Hell I'm already disappointed Andrade is in it.

So is this really like the All Japan Triple Crown or is this going to be like the J-Crown where the initial champ is recognized as the American Triple Crown winner but then the belts go back to original promotion?
Either way, it feels like New Japan cares less about the Strong title anymore with more of the US shows being headlined by IWGP title matches, and the ROH title is kind of an after thought so why not try to get some shine?
