184. Bless the Child (2000) - probably not many people going to agree with me here but I liked it, silly in places, not quite sure what tone it wants but it kept me interested at least
185. Major League (1989) - a childhood favourite for whatever (despite being born in a country where baseball isn't popular) and little to usually appeal to kiddos it was great to revisit and still enjoy this movie.

2024 New Releases
#24 The Strangers: Chapter 1
I knew going into the movie that this was Part 1 of a new trilogy of Strangers movies. Based on the title I presumed this was a the first in a series of prequel movies, when in reality it's actually a remake of the original movie. And this is pretty much beat-for-beat the same movie as the original The Strangers but completely lacking the tension or suspense. (For the record I only saw the original last year so this isn't nostalgia talking)
There are a few changes made to the setting and characters but for the most part I think these changes hurt the final product (e.g. instead of the characters being terrorised in their own home, their being targeted in a secluded Airbnb cabin in the woods). Credit where it's due, the scene that I found the most tense is one that is a completely new addition from the original. That said,I can't help but feel like it was lifted from a very similar scene which was in A Quiet Place.
With the next two installments coming out over the next 12 months, I feel like you should just watch the original film, and when Chapter 2 arrives, pretend they recast Liv Tyler with Madelaine Petsch.
VERDICT: Lacking in tension or scares, this is a significantly lesser, entirely skippable retelling of the superior 2008 original.

78. See No Evil (2006) - Watched this on DVD. It's May 19th, and for us wrestling fans, we know what that means. Anyway, I felt like putting on my DVD of this. I recall buying it at a new/used record store many years ago on clearance. It had been many years since the last time I watched it. Does it hold up? Let's see.
When you go into a slasher movie, you pretty much know what to expect. Many of the people in the group get picked off one by one. Some of the characters are unlikable, too. Usually ends with one or two (sometimes three) people surviving the events. Yes, this movie is riddled with clichés found in other slasher films. However, I will say that Kane (or is it Glen Jacobs?) can be very scary and he was scary in this film. Also, you usually go into a movie like this see some gruesome kills. While it was a little tame in the gore department, I thought some of the kills were creative (like the cellphone kill).
One of my gripes was that one of the group ended up surviving. I am not sure if he was redeemed by the end when he was the most unlikable characters earlier in the film.
Is it a great film? No. Is it entertaining? It can be. I was entertained by it. I wouldn't call it the best slasher I have seen, but I don't mind the film. It's not a bad way to kill an hour and 24 minutes.
I know a sequel exists, but I am wondering if I should watch it.
79. See No Evil 2 - Watched this on the FAWESOME TV app. After watching this film's predecessor, the curiosity of this film sparked. I didn't have the highest of expectations, but I was curious. Because a library database that loans from different cities didn't have this, I tried to find some apps that had this. One app had this only in Spanish. Although I know some Spanish, I did not want to watch it that way. I did find it on another. I usually don't like watching things on free apps (because of the ads), I decided to watch it, anyway.
I could tell that this had a different feel when the film started. The lighting and the cinematography, they were different from the predecessor. No longer do we have some dimness mixed with some sepia-toned lighting. This time there was some dimness but even in brightly-lit areas, it was still a little dark. I would think it was because it was directed by the Soska Sisters. I am not familiar with their work. I heard some positive things about "American Mary," which starred Katharine Isabelle (who was also in this film), as well as "Vendetta" with Dean Cain and Paul Wight (aka The Big Show). The only film of theirs that I have seen is "Dead Rising: Watchtower."
Anyway, I think if anyone were to watch this, it would be to see Kane kill more people. Although this came out nearly a decade after its predecessor, it's set right after the events of that film. I couldn't tell you how Kane's character survived the events of that film. The kills and the gore ramped up a bit more this time around. I am also intrigued that this film ended with no final survivor or anything like that.
If you just want to see nonstop carnage and stuff, this might be for you. I wasn't bored with this film, even though I don't think the predecessor needed a sequel. Though something tells me that the script was for something else.

I love a lot of things about this movie but that soundtrack might be the best. [****]
#211 - BLACKPINK: The Movie (Hulu)

Though I prefer the Netflix movie's more documentary style, this was a concert at a lot of points and I f***s with that. [***½]

34. The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
Wow this was fabulous, felt great watching it, with enough edge and drama to really earn the heart. The music and costumes were fantastic and seeing this after, well, everything Hugo Weaving has done since, damn that was special.

70. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) 71. Wagons East! (1994) 72. Journey to the Center of Time (1967)I genuinely don't remember what first put this movie on my radar, but I found it on YouTube and figured I'd give it a go. For those not familiar, a time travel experiment goes wrong and causes three scientists and their grumpy boss to get lost in time and... stuff happens? Yeah, I think that's the best explanation, "stuff happens". An honestly very boring movie. It feels like its creators put a little more effort into it then the normal B-movie of its day, but it's loaded with techno-babble, it seems to take forever to get anywhere and when it finally does you don't really know what's going on. The acting is hit or miss and I think one of the actress' real name is "Poopy". The most interesting thing about it is the bit part played by a young Lyle Waggoner.

Guessing I haven't seen this in a long ass time, cause I almost nothing about it besides a few scenes.
Nothing amazing but I can see why this developed a cult following.

We're taking my son to Universal in June and decided to watch some of the movies featured there to give him more context. We've already seen most Despicable Me/Minions movies, the Jurassic Park trilogy and Jurassic World, Kong: Skull Island, and most of the Harry Potter films (We're reading them first, are on Order of the Phoenix, and have watched to Goblet of Fire)
So we kicked it off with Men in Black, and it was a big hit. Whole lot more swearing than I remember, things look very different when you're a parent. But whatever, he's probably heard it all from Archie already. (Archie is THAT kid at school)
It actually wasn't available for free on any streaming service so I had to rent it.
Next up is E.T. .......WHICH ALSO ISN'T ON ANY STREAMING SERVICE
Also going to do The Mummy. Not sure what else yet.
Maybe find some kid friendly Simpsons episodes....don't think my wife will approve.

72. Journey to the Center of Time (1967) 73. Accepted (2006)Another YouTube find, and quite a welcome one. A fun and very underrated little movie, very of its day, highlighted by Lewis Black at his Lewis Black-iest.

80. Challengers (2024) - Saw this in theaters. I am not sure what it was that drew to see this. I have somewhat of an interest in tennis, but I am not sure if that was the primary drawing factor. Maybe it was the use of "S&M" by Rihanna in the trailers? Maybe it was the quick shot of Zendaya in a state of undress in the trailer? Whatever the case was, I am glad that I got to see this because it was, indeed, a good film.
With that said, how good was it? Well, I found it very intriguing that this the framing of the story was around the finals of a tennis tournament involving the two male leads, Mike Faist and Josh O'Connor. Even more interesting is how most of the story was told in flashbacks to the friendship of the two guys and when they meet Zendaya's character, and their relationships with each other. While some of the story could be about the love triangle, the two guys had amazing chemistry with each other as well, so it's possible that there was some kind of polyamory subtext in this film, or maybe the thing about friendship and when a girl gets in the middle of things.
I also liked the original music by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Their score tracks added to a lot of the scenes in this film.

This is a perfect movie. [*****]
#214 - House Party (2023, Max)

The first half of this movie is ass but then the Kid Cudi/Illuminati subplot comes into play and gave it a boost. [**]

186. Spy (2015) - funny comedy from the director of female Ghostbusters and creator of Freaks and Geeks. Brits Peter Serafinowicz and Jason Stham steal the show for me.
187. Little Black Book (2004) - so, so comedy/drama which is lacking on both, Brittany Murphy is appealing though and good to see Rashida Jones in this.
188. Pink Floyd's The Wall (1982) - Love the album, hard to rate it in many ways, it's an album that you can visualise images too when you listen some of this falls short of the expections while some exceeds.

72. Journey to the Center of Time (1967) 73. Accepted (2006) 74. The Mummy (1932)So I've seen the 1999 Mummy movie more times then I can count, and last year I watched the 1959 Hammer remake for the first time, so when I saw the original Universal version on YouTube I figured I'd give it a go. Man was this disappointing. I hate to criticize what is nearly a one hundred year old classic, and the actors were acting their asses off in that old-timey stage honed actor type way, but there was no action to this, no excitement, no tension, no chemistry. It was just so so soooo borrrrrring. 75. Blades of Glory (2007)Honestly, really quiet day at work and I managed to slip a second YouTube movie in. Another movie I first watched during the pandemic and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Just a really funny stupid movie, featuring a hilarious cast that was just throwing everything they had out there.

Really liked the first film but this one had the audacity to try and make the murdering rapist into the hero and yeah, that failed miserably. [*]

Like Saltburn but without the bathtub. [****]
#218 - Terminator Genisys (Prime)

The Terminator franchise starts with two all-timers and then follows with four painfully mediocre sequels. [**½]
#219 - IF (Theater)
*1st Viewing
This was cute but ultimately seems unsure of what it wants to be. It's like, too slow/depressing and not fun enough for kids but also not totally gripping enough for the adults. [**½]
