I haven't watched in a while, and frankly the addition of a load of LEDs doesn't really make me want to start again. Why does everything have to be so f***ing garish now? I think it might be Mike Mansury's influence. He used to work in WWE production.

LED boards do allow companies to change the look of a show fairly easily with minimal effort. For example shifting from Dynamite to Rampage or Collision to ROH. It is also becoming more standardized across entertainment so I could see WBD being in favor of the shift as well.

They've been around in legitimate sports for years, I suppose, but I hate them in that too. They introduced them in English international cricket four or five years ago, creating a massive physical gap between spectators and the playing area that wasn't there before and has sort of ruined the atmosphere a bit. I don't know about anyone else but I find them extremely distracting in a live environment too, not just on TV, because the sudden changes in the colour of the graphics can change the lighting in the whole venue.
I know no one who works for these companies would agree with me, but I'd honestly rather every show look identical and just have a generic apron and set to being covered in LED screens, it makes it unwatchable for me, not to mention tacky.
Grumble, grumble.

The weird thing with the LED barricades and ring aprons is that it seems to just be the ones visible on hardcam. Maybe the apron facing the entrance ramp, too.
I don't mind it too much. But if it gets to LED ring posts and AR shit, I'm throwing up hands.

But if it gets to LED ring posts and AR shit, I'm throwing up hands. WWE’s LED apron deal started with just one on the hard cam side too. I’m not sure it’s just that Mike Mansury guy or whoever who influenced this though. It’s not like they didn’t notice WWE had been doing that for forever. I think it’s probably just to make the product seem as ‘high-budget’ as them. The problem is that there are tons of other ways to do that. UFC and NJPW are both able to look like zillion dollar productions without everything being so gaudy and obnoxious. You just can’t “out WWE the WWE” so adding bad versions of elements of their production is off putting to me, and potentially confusing to new fans. I might be touched a little bit because I will legit hinge my viewership on if I like the way the arena/ring/whatever looks like (I know that’s crazy but it’s how I am, don’t judge me) and if it gets to the point that AEW gets visually difficult to distinguish from WWE then I’ll probably be done watching.

Finally caught up and saw the LED barricade and thankfully it's tolerable. Bit extra on some entrances but subdued otherwise.
The worry is it creeps into being a garish distraction. Especially during tie-ins like the suicide squad stuff a couple of weeks ago, some animations to grab attention, I can see Warner Bros wanting that.
I say it everytime but I wish they'd take influence from noah's production more than wwe.
