due to the part they played.
I'm always suprised whenever Christopher loyd pops up because I thought he was already like 60 when Back the Future first came out. Also messing with my head is that he played a version of himself 30 years younger that looked exactly the same.
It also warped my perception of how old Leah Thompson is supposed to be. First she's old, then she's young, and in real life, she's still pretty youthful looking.
Also, watching family Ties, I always thought the dad was in his 50's cause of that big bushy salt and pepper beard he had. He looked a lot younger when I see him again in the 2000's/2010's with a clean shaven face.
Also the commish. Michael Chiklis looked older in 1996 during the commish than he did in 2010 during the Shield.

Wilford Brimley was 48 years old when he was in The Thing. He was 51 in Cocoon, which was roughly 20 years younger than the other actors who were part of the retirement community.

This applies to practically everyone on Cheers, really.
Furthermore, on Friends, Matthew Perry was the youngest and in his early 20s when the show began.

Richard Dreyfuss was 26-27 when he filmed Jaws. I'd have guessed early to mid 40s.
Tommy Lee Jones actually is an old man now but he already had that vibe even 30 years ago. He was only 46-47 at the time of The Fugitive. To make a comparison, while filming Men in Black he was a decade younger than Brad Pitt is today.
Marlon Brando was also around 46-47 when filming The Godfather which I didn't realize until fairly recently. I just thought that was what he looked like at the time and he was probably like 60-70 but the make-up department did a great job to age him up for the role.

Watching the show now, it's obvious that Vicki Lawrence was much younger than the Thelma Harper character from Mama's Family. But when I was a little kid and the show was on the air, I assumed they were the same age.

Dolly Parton was 34 when she appeared in "9 to 5" and 36 when "Best Little..." came out. I had assumed she was older than that because I had seen her on TV for years.

Yep, she went through around 45 minutes of makeup, plus a wig, for the look. Oddly enough, she even got a facelift during the making of the series to appear younger outside of the role, which probably made it a little more jarring.

Cathy Moriarty for years always thought she was older then she was because didn't realise she was only 19/20 when the movie came out.
Polly Holliday was in her late 40s when she played Mrs Deagle in Gremlins

I guess it was because of the character's position as an exec in Private Parts and the way he looked in John Adams, but I always thought Paul Giamatti was in his 50s back in the 90s and early 2000s. Turns out, he's in his 50s NOW.

Turns out, he's in his 50s NOW. I think the fact that Paul Giamatti's bread and butter is playing stressed out middle-aged and older characters influences the way his age is percieved. Compare that to Keanu Reeves, who almost always portrays characters younger than himself, which contributes to him being percieved as being an unageing vampire, despite being six months short of 60.

I'm so used to teen movies and shows casting none teens in the role, that it was surprising they cast 17 year old Seth Rogen as a 17 year old (who was probably 16 at time of pilot) and he looked older then his actual age he's closer in age to the three on the right

Yes on Lloyd, in the 2nd one, they do the reveal of him doing rejuvenation treatment, pulling the latex making him look old off.... and he looks exactly the same. Confused the hell out of me as a kid.

Turns out, he's in his 50s NOW. Receding hairlines really betray your age. It's still jarring to think the cast of Seinfeld is supposed to be MY age at the time of broadcast. When Jason Alexander started playing George Costanza, he was only one year older than Andrew Garfield was playing Peter Parker in Amazing Spider-Man, which begins with Peter in high school.
