It technically might not be a promo, but Warrior appeared on Prime Time shortly after the casket incident on Superstars and did an *awesome* job of showing how shaken he was by the whole thing. There was no screaming and grunting, just a guy, talking about damn near being killed, in a regular, subdued tone Ooh, I don't have any memory of that one, interesting. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBex8HmG-9o

Yeah, that was mainly what I was talking about in the first post, that he DID have some great promos, usually as a heel since frankly he was a very believable complainer, but he did also cut some very basic promos or need to kind of shrink in the background while Anvil did the talking as a tag team, etc. I wouldn't call him a bad promo, there are worse ones, but as a main event guy, he was often pretty average to below average at it. Shawn, too, due to really cheesy one-liners that had no prayer of getting over, but he obviously improved, too, and probably got more consistent than Bret. Bret is probably on Undertaker's level, promo-wise. You'd get some cheesy stuff, but also some effective work. Bret just never gave anything a heinous as the "I left Big Show in the desert" promo, which still remains one of the most astonishingly bad promos by a main event guy in WWE history. That is a very good point Taker spent most of his career doing the slow zombie grumble, which really didn't require much skill. He managed to circumvent being a pretty poor promo most of the time I think he managed to turn it around eventually, but yeah, Undertaker had a combination of needing time to find his voice, and also stuff from the late '90s having the problem of his body being busted and his marriage being in an even worse state, so he was coming apart at the seams, all while tasked with trying to make Russo material make any goddamn sense. It wasn't exactly an enviable task, to be fair to him.

The long one about the Cell at Armageddon 2000 for example

That time Bret called Goldberg a dummy. I thought Bret seemed to loosen up a little in his WCW promos. “Who are you to doubt El Dandy” is one of my favorite lines from any promo ever. Just the way he said it was great.... so smarmy!!! LOL

Bret was a fine promo, honestly if he struggled with anything earlier in his career, it was being so direct about something without conveying any level of emotion, something he got much much better at later in his career.
Shawn Michaels on the other hand was a great heel promo, but the moment he turned face in '95...he really struggled to find his voice. He would either either come off as smug or pathetically emotional...either way, it was hard to like the guy. It didn't help that he was cutting drunk promos by 1997. Thankfully his hiatus helped him with creating some humility in his image.

I remember seeing one before his match at The Main Event against Ted Dibiase where he talked about how all the money in the World dosen't make him a champion. His promos against Savage headed into their Wrestlemania VII bout were also good.

See the scrub Frank Williams put his heart and soul into this promo.
