I still think Brock/Goldberg had a chance to win over the crowd. There was a big Goldberg chant at the beginning and the boos were focused on Brock. Once they stalled for like 5 minutes though before doing a move the crowd was beyond gone. They had turned on them both and there was no going back.
If they had had the exact same short, all-action match they had at Mania 33 but with Goldberg winning and I think MSG eats it up.

This was my first Mania ever and from then on I've been endlessly fascinated by how much no one f***ing remembers Rock & Sock vs. Evolution. It might be the least talked about Mania match that was supposed to be big in the last 20 years.
My theory is that there's an inherent fear amongst humanity to perceive The Rock's "trying to be a Hollywood guy" era where he got super lean and had a Bad Boys II goatee.

I was in the crowd, the narrative that popped up a few times that the crowd didn't give them a chance is false... the crowd was still hyped for it and then they stared at each other for like 3 years... and then did a test of strength and broke... and then stared at each other... if they came out swinging the crowd would have reacted way differently

first mania I watched live because the other ones beforehand were too expensive, so i'd rent the VHS/DVD from blockbuster or hollywood video!
i remember thinking it was the most historic thing because my young dumbass thought "WOWZA 20 YEARS! INCREDIBLE!" but a lot of the card confused the shit out of me, especially that evolution match.
lots of memorable moments though. the christian/jericho betrayal, goldberg/brock being the worst shit ever but myself having no idea why they're booing them, undertaker finally stopping the biker thing and of course the post main event stuff.

I remember being pretty disappointed with the Angle/Eddie match, mainly the ending. I know it was in character for Guerrero to do that but it just seemed lame compared to past spots.
The Taker return, I was more distracted by his hair lol. Like a goth berries and cream lad.

The first one is too stubborn, bitter, jaded wrestlers just wanting to cash a check. The rematch was a straight brawl and there was no reason that both of them 13 years older put on a better match. Big missed opportunity here. Goldberg was still able to work decent length matches and so was Brock.

Still one of the coolest sets they’ve had imo. Kane coming out and the city being on fire is a personal highlight. Loved how many guys got their one and only Mania appearance on the card. The tag matches and cruiserweight gauntlet really helped in that regard

I remember not being 100 percent hyped with it when it happened, but looking back, it's definitely a top ten (close to top five) 'Mania for me. And if you're curious - 17 14 19 30 10 That's my fav five
