There was no way that "Snakes on a Plane" was ever gonna live up to the sorta hype it got, including Sam Jackson insisting that the title stay what it was.

I watched the Brian Gilbert movie about Oscar Wilde as I had heard great things about it, and it’s touching in spots and Stephen Fry’s performance is great, but Bosie Douglas is such a whiny and bratty little f***boy that I’m thinking throughout the whole movie why Oscar doesn’t just kick his ass and then dump him afterwards.

Kind of an odd case, but when I finally saw the 1978 Superman I could tell it was well executed, but for me it just wasn't the definitive experience with the character people had built it up as. Maybe it's because I'm someone that adored the DCAU, don't have the context for a serious superhero movie being that novel, and prefer the post-crisis take on Superman, I don't know. The Donner film just feels like a solid Silver Age story that I've rarely felt the need to go back to. The 1989 Batman is arguably a more flawed movie, but it has much more rewatchabiltiy.

Stuff like the exorcist, Blair witch but I don’t really get scared by horror movies so might be reason why (I’m a total coward when I play horror games though ha)

The first Avengers movie.
When it came out I was living in Japan and it came out about 4-5 months later than it did in the west. So I had a few months of my friends back home saying how great it was and gushing over Loki and when I finally watched it I could not understand why my friends loved it so much. Their hype levels made me expect one of the greatest comic book movies ever made and it wasn't even close, IMO.
It left such a sour taste in my mouth that I haven't watched a Marvel movie since.
That's probably more on my friends than general hype though.

Forrest Gump. I know so many people from my generation that say it's their favorite movie of all time. I think it's an enjoyable movie but I almost feel like people who love Forrest Gump so much are people who don't watch anything but Hollywood blockbusters.

Simpsons Movie. Just a below mediocre episode stretched out to fill a movie time slot.

Not movies, but whenever I watched the first few seasons of 'SNL', I couldn't figure out what was supposed to be so funny that the show is still around 100 years later.

Right at the peak of the shows popularity too. Also when they were still funny. I won't any Simpsons episode post-2002 anymore.

I think it's an enjoyable movie but I almost feel like people who love Forrest Gump so much are people who don't watch anything but Hollywood blockbusters. I was going to say Forrest Gump. As you say, it’s enjoyable but when I see it appear on greatest lists of all-time lists I can’t get my head round it. And don’t get me started on it somehow winning the Best Picture.Oscar.

Since I already mentioned Nomadland, I'll stick to Best Picture winners that baffle me;
Slumdog Millionaire - labeled as a "feel good" story, which it's anything but. It's like someone said we need a gritty "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" or something.
Chariots of Fire - oh boy...a movie about running! Seriously, the story behind these two guys is worth telling, but it would have been a better documentary. Only thing people remember from this movie is the score.
The Great Ziegfeld - only reason it won was because of the spectacular show in the middle of the overtly long movie. By today's standards, that "show" is an absolute drag outside of Ray Bolger's footwork.
Ordinary People - I'm sure back in 1980 that portraying dark elements of the nuclear family was new, but this was such a flat experience. It truly does look like it would make for a better book...which apparently it was. Raging Bull lost to this.
Around the World in 80 Days - considering what it was up against, the fact that this was even nominated, let alone win was a joke. The movie is okay for something for the kiddies to watch on a Saturday matinee sandwiched between some Flintstones cartoons and a Herbie movie...but certainly not the best movie of the year.
Crash - swap the 'c' for a 't'. The David Cronenberg movie of the same name about people who are sexually aroused by car accidents is better than this.
Out of Africa - I've seen this movie 3 times and I don't remember one frame of it. I'll also wager that it's one of those movies that 99% of people would miss when asking them to name as many Best Picture winners that they can.
The Deer Hunter - for such an anti-war movie, it certainly does a good job of justifying it with the barbaric portrayal of the Vietnamese. Some good performances, but it should be a good indicator why Michael Cimino didn't have a successful career after this.
The English Patient - I can't believe Fargo lost to this. This is the pinnacle 'hype' movie that everyone got on board for...and immediately forgot about once the hype died.
A Beautiful Mind - Ron Howard is winning this, even if we have to drag him across the stage for it! Unintentionally hilarious for the way they treat schizophrenia.
The Departed - again they have to drag Scorsese up there for the amount of times he was overlooked, but they gave it to him for one of his lesser movies. The movie is okay but I remember thinking the ending felt off and tacked on...then I saw Infernal Affairs and that proved to be correct. Oh and that version is about a thousand times better than Scorsese's rat flick.
Gigi - one of the most forgettable musicals I've ever seen and I love musicals.
Cavalcade - take all the previous entries I listed, put them on an endless loop...and I'd rather deal with that than ever watching this movie again.

Pan's Labyrinth. All the hype was devoted to the fantasy aspects, neglecting to mention that most of the movie was dull as dishwater. The Room Oh, it's bad, soooo, so bad. But the way folks calls it "worst movie evar!" and such, it's not, IMO. For one, it's not boring as such, and it actually has a point which it kind of reacheas in a convulated way. I adore The Room. That said, there are plenty of movies that are worse than that one. ...the people who made Daddy Day Camp owe me an hour and a half of my life back...

I saw someone say it before, not sure if here or elsewhere, that the former was "a movie about racism made by people who didn't know what racism was".

I remember being underwhelmed by "The Descent," but there is a side of me that wants to give it another chance.

My favorite thing about Monty Python & the Holy Grail wasn’t from the movie, but my grandpa’s reaction to it the first time he saw it with us. I still vividly remember exactly what he said when the end credits popped up.
“You mean that’s it?! Jesus Christ, I’m 68 years old and you waste two hours of what precious time I have left on that shit? Thanks a lot!”
For what it’s worth, he lived for another twenty years.

I enjoyed Slumdog Millionaire just fine, but mainly because of Dev Patel. It definitely was not a feel good movie. I’ve seen both Crash movies. The one about racism just was ham-fisted and not good at all as far as I was concerned. The James Spader film was way, way better. The plot was not great, but the fantastic cast was still given better materials to work with. I’ve never seen Out of Africa. I don’t know the first thing about the movie. I just was reminded of The Gods Must Be Crazy, a film I enjoyed as a kid but at the same time found the portrayal of the natives to be highly insulting. Granted, I saw it as part of a double feature at the drive in (no, I don’t remember what the other film of the double feature was. It was 1984, after the rerelease).
