So Conan O'Brien pretty much said that Norm got fired from SNL because the president of NBC at the time (who was friends with OJ Simpson) hated his Weekend Update OJ jokes.

The craziest thing about the OJ trial to me isnāt how long it was or the verdict or the jury not understanding what DNA wasā¦itās how fast it actually got to trial. The murder happened in June and they were in front of a jury in November. Iāve seen misdemeanors take three years to get to trial

Now that he is gone, maybe the real killer will step forward without fear of OJ might do to them.

Good riddance to bad rubbish imo. He was guilty as sin and he got off because of doubt because of how the LAPD handled some evidence poorly. Denis Fung of the LAPD for example was sloppy is collecting evidence and it was filmed by the TV crew. And mark Ferhman was an obvious disaster that cast even more doubt on things.

The OJ Simpson chase happened June 17, 1994. I was 14 years old and in Reno with my family that day. My brother and I were too young to gamble and bored out of our minds. We returned to our hotel room figuring we'd just watch TV or something. That's when the chase was happening. Where were all of you that day? How many of you were even born? It was during the 1994 World Cup. In fact the car chase took place on the same day as the hosts USA played Switzerland (1-1). Although it has a cult following these days back in pre-internet, limited cable days American football had near zero cultural imprint in the UK so the BBC commentators were quite excited and mentioning the car chase during the game but had to provide a point of reference to the viewers back home. I remember them saying, "Imagine if Gary Lineker killed his wife and went on the run, that's what it's like for the American people today!"Ā I remember finding out that the car chase took place during one of the NBA finals games between the Knicks and the Rockets. The players on the court had NO IDEA what was happening as far as OJ (remember this was pre Internet for 99% of the world) and they had no idea why a lot of the fans who were watching the game were all of a sudden at the concession stands areas.

Shame we lost Norm already, would have been a great Twitter follow over these past few days.

Don Ohlmyer couched it as he just didnāt think Nom's WU was funny. He didnāt want him fired from the show, just taken off Update. His evidence being that Leno told tons of OJ jokes, with no interference. Of course, thatās BS. Norm's jokes had much more teeth than Leno's. Most of them with the express purpose of pointing out his guilt. Ohlmyer got chapped because Norm was too mean to his golfing buddy and threw his weight around.

It is hard to describe to people who weren't alive what a media sensation the whole OJ saga was. It has been 30 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. The internet was still in its infancy and computers were still relatively expensive, so TV was huge.
I was 9 years old when the chase happened. I had just finished playing a baseball game and we hopped in my dad's truck. The radio broadcast was interrupted with coverage of the chase. Dad and Mom looked at each other and Dad flew home. We got back home and turned on the TV and watched what seemed like forever. I distinctly remember my Dad telling Mom that OJ was going to kill himself on national TV and if things started turning that way, I was going to my room. Nine year old Hova would have simply turned on the TV in his room, but that's besides the point.
The trial was a media circus. It was the lead story every night on the TV news. It was a master class in how to mishandle a trial from every party except the defense. I don't think in today's age OJ gets acquitted, given how much we know about DNA now. Back then, DNA was this weird thing that literally Barry Scheck had to educate everyone on.
I won't say RIP to a man who slaughtered two innocent people. I'm also not happy he is dead. I'm completely indifferent to his existence.
On a side note, I'd highly recommend FX's People vs. OJ Simpson miniseries they did about ten years ago. It was phenomenal and really captured the vibe back then.

Sunny jailed, OJ gone...justice when did you wake up? What else? Well, I really liked that Kato Kaelin "Day-O" parody that Comedy Central used to run during commercials. It was on like a dozen times during MST3K. Can we get the lost Adventures in Wonderland episode now? I got nothing else.

Wonder what Lance Ito thinks of all of this as well. Well given that the whole trial is on YouTube and I watched it during the lockdowns in 2020, not great. He imo let the defense run the show, which is ridiculous given he was the judge. The prosecution while Iām sure they are very good lawyers, just didnāt get that the evidence needs to tell a story. Marcia Clark didnāt do well. Several times she asked repetitive questions of her own witnesses and comes across as argumentative. Thereās one memorable day, which I think is march 15th and Marcia Clark and F Lee Bailey go at it big time. Baileys cross examination of mark Furhman is like watching a master at work though. The cameras catch Johnny Cochran looking at Bailey almost in awe during it, as if heās watching a master angler at work.

The chase happened the day after my dad and stepmom had gotten married, and they were at LAX going on their honeymoon when everything was going down. Meanwhile teenage me, and my teenage stepsister were left at home, so that was a real interesting time.

It was weird how so many black people had marker pens and pieces of cardboard at home ready to make pro-OJ signs during the car chase.

There was a Weekend Update joke last night about how the prostate cancer he died from was planted on him by the LAPD.

Just listened to Kim Goldman on Howard Stern and something she said stuck out: If OJ was innocent, how come he never acknowledged the bravery of Ron for trying to save the mother of his children?
