Naito’s my favorite NJPW guy and I’m glad he got to have his Wrestle Kingdom moment and a run with the new title, but yeah he looks pretty rough out there sometimes. It’s an unexpected result and Mox is one of the best doing it so him winning the title is alright in my book. Hope they can make something interesting out of it.

idk if that place has changed in the last year or so but I don't think I've ever seen them this angry. I expected a little irritated cause it has been bubbling but no, they're pissed Why? From a mostly outside perspective they've had some weak recent champions, have lost many of their biggest stars and desperately need to make new ones. Mox is an upgrade in the short term and in the long run one of their new chosen ones defeating him (or Bryan) will make them more than beating a broken down Naito and they in turn can make their contemporaries. A bit of buzz can only help too. That said I can get wanting say ZSJ to be champion. Plus I'm always baffle why Himoru hasn't moved up tk that division. To play devil's advocate, I think it boils down to this:
You mention about them losing bigger stars, when Moxley is part of the promotion picking up those same bigger guys.
Moxley's US title runs averaged a defence every 100 days, so there is likely concern that this will happen again.
FTR's tag title reign didn't exactly set a good precedent.
I do personally think that Moxley's relationship with NJPW combined with this being the top belt will cause this reign to be handled much better than whats mentioned above, and that a short-term option whilst the younger guys are built up is a sensible play. But it needs Moxley to be committed 100% to NJPW until Forbidden Door for this to work, which needs Tony to allow it.

Definitely makes the title match at FD potentially more interesting, for me anyway. Not sure how much mileage is in Champ vs not quite main eventer from the other company that will happily lose.

IIRC, Mox isn't just a guest worker but has a separate contract with NJPW. Granted, the pandemic made travel way tougher in 2020 and 2021 where he just couldn't get over to Japan because of all the restrictions and his need in AEW. Between that and an injury along with his rehab stints, it's why he didn't defend his US Championship so much. Indeed, he was stripped of the title because of it at one point before he got a chance to win it back.
As far as FTR goes, I put that way more on NJPW's historically inconsistent record with booking the tag titles than anything specific to FTR.

Very happy for Mox been a big fan since The Shield broke up really. Thank goodness he recovered from that awful heel turn in WWE.
Interesting to see what happens with his defence at Forbidden Door if he holds it until then. Danielson v Mox seems obvious but I’m kind of hoping for something else. Maybe Mox v Okada, Ospreay or PAC.

Mox might be the first guy to look good with the newer design. Still prefer the V4. GOAT design that should have never been replaced

Mox is absolutely not an upgrade over Naito in NJPW’s core market. Naito is their biggest star and most consistent draw. Mox is over in Japan but he’s not bigger than Naito. Not even close.

Whoever recommended that Trish & Sarah Podcast in one of the Punk threads I thank you. It's fantastic.
Latest podcast they raised a really good point. You bringing Mox back this week, like he's a big deal, history making champ etc on the go home show before a ppv where you crown Swerve with your world title.
I really think they should have Swerve come out during Mox's promo and do the old 'congratulations, but come Sunday I'll be the top dog in this industry' etc
You can also plant seeds for a title match. Mox beat Swerve in C2 and also Swerve wasn't pinned in the semi 3way so you have something to revisit
