I was a fan of wrestling long before I really had any idea about ethics or abuse or any shit like that so I knew loads of horrible shit about Vince before I really reconciled it with enjoying the product he put out
In the 2010s I got sicker and sicker of his bullshit booking decisions while slowly pulling together that he had blood on his hands
Then Ashley Massaro killed herself and I peaced out of WWE entirely
Also, that Hitler comparison seems grossly insincere to me and comes off like a suggestion people are overhyping how much of a scumbag he is
Rest assured, even without the last few years of revelations, even without Rita Chatterton, he is still a human garbage bag, a liar, a grifter, an abuser, a credit hog, a thief, and all around piece of shit

For me? Probably around 1999, or whenever it was I first saw Wrestling with Shadows on A&E.

I think I _started_ to sour on him around the time it came out he wanted to do an incest angle with Stephanie, but I was still in the "Yeah, he's not a good person, but what can anyone really do about him?" phase then.
But really, it seemed like in recent years, the worse the shows got, the more Vince ramped up his bad behavior. And that was really what led to the "I don't care how it happens, I just want him gone" point.

Those reports that came out this year was baaad. What he’s done is worst thing anyone can do short of killing someone in cold blood and I doubt it’s an isolated incident

Vince was still getting huge pops and people to bow to him during his final appearances.
He may have been hated by IWC since 97 but he was still a respected figure until 22 imo.

I ignored a lot of the real-life stories that were already fairly common knowledge when the product was still entertaining in the late '90s and early 2000s, but I'd say I've wanted him off my TV as a character and a person since the period when he was making out with new Divas all the time.
It's harder to pinpoint the moment when I knew for sure he was human garbage. There were many. The Costas interview in 2002 was one. Going back and revisiting the Snuka situation and the early '90s sex scandal with adult eyes definitely brought a lot into perspective. "The white cotton panties" stuff with him and Kevin Dunn. The phoniness and hypocrisy of the anti-bullying campaign. The Saudi stuff. And then of course when the really sick allegations started coming in.
The Chatterton story bothers me quite a bit because that was out there forever going back to the golden era and no one dug deep into it or took it seriously until a couple of years ago.

I was too young to understand the Melanie Pillman interview and its real significance in '97, but hooooooly shit, what a c***

There has never been a time in my life when I liked him, but I would say 1997.

I think learning of the Jimmy Snuka story took it to another level, for me. Until then, I viewed him as a carny, that made his bones by conning other cons. But that story made it crystal clear of his malignancy. And everything else we’ve learned is just further confirmation. For me, poor booking isn’t even part of the equation.

I never liked Vince McMahon. Even as a kid, I felt he was a terrible announcer and he always came across as a slimy, untrustworthy person to me.

I started to strongly dislike him around 1998. Before that I was a WWF loyalist. I despised the Attitude Era and basically felt like Vince took a big shit on my childhood. The way he behaved on the last episode of Nitro turned me into a hater, because it was pretty obvious he was not only going to kill the only brand of wrestling I still enjoyed, but he was going to rub my nose in it.

From a general public angle, there was a fairly critical biography of Vince published just last March where the overall response was still "man, Vince, what a weird guy!" which seems kind of hard to believe now. It wasn't until the newest stuff came out in January where I think we really hit the level where everyone finally had to accept that he's (allegedly) this kind of actual monstrous person.
For me, personally? Probably around when he did the Playboy interview (2001) where the wild "I wanted to put crushed leaves inside of her" stuff came out and it started to become clear how fundamentally messed up he really was. Coincidentally/not coincidentally, the Trish "bark like a dog" segment happened around that same time. He was really feeling it then, just leaning publicly into the character and the guy apparently being the same person on some level, giving a lot more insight into him than he must have realized or cared.
As a character, though, when he came back around 2018, he looked so much worse, physically. I assume he had some work done on his face or something, but he no longer looked like "Vince McMahon" and all the power and presence he had was almost immediately gone. I think that marked a real beginning of the end for him. By the time he was doing the weird golden egg stuff with Theory in 2021, he was a husk of himself and even the most ardent Mr. McMahon fans had no use for him anymore.

If Vince McMahon were to ever return to TV (he won't), I think the days of him getting the "fans bowing" reaction are long gone. And sadly, it's not because of the allegations he's facing. It's because they've found out how much better WWE programming is without him around.

Vince basically never passed the eyeball test. There was ALWAYS something obviously shady about him. People may have enjoyed the show, and even liked the Mr. McMahon character, but outside of some weird simps (usually the same people who want Chris Benoit in the hall of fame) that like never extended to Vince personally. People were just always waiting for the moment that would confirm what they already felt about him already and now they had an excuse to finally be rid of him forever.

I feel like it was always common knowledge Vince was a total piece of shit, it just became less and less tolerable. Yeah, Vince being a big piece of shit was always an open secret at best. Just how big a piece of shit, meanwhile, is something that developed over time.
Honestly, there’s a big difference between being an eccentric weird billionaire who dates 20 year olds and talks about steakwraps, and you know..a legit criminal rapist.

I don’t think Vince “hate” even started until recently, and honestly if “No Chance in Hell” played at WrestleMania, I’m not entirely sure there wouldn’t have been a big pop.
Vince was a known scumbag for decades. People just ignored it because he supplied a fix for a hobby/obsession. If he was still in charge of WWE today, that would still apply, sadly.

Not everybody may even be paying attention either. If it weren't for the FAN forum, all I'd personally know about this case at all is a short mention that it had on NBC Nightly News when the lawsuit first got filed several months ago.
