I don’t understand why they ended the lineage of the belt that went back 40 years and kept the ones with Benoit as the first champ At some point, Vince lost the plot and just started making nonsensical choices while refusing to put any attention or care into anything beyond his initial reaction to anything. My theory is that those belts were established in the WWE whereas the old ones started in the WWWF. Given the WWE is radically different from the WWWF and even different than what the WWF was in the years prior to the change, I can fully understand the lineage change. The original Tag Belts existed still but it seems they decided to focus on only the WWE era one and just retire the old lineage. Sort of like how the NFL recognizes all league championships prior to 1970 as NFC Championships retroactively and only begin counting Super Bowl Champions after the 1966 season. Now where this would make 0 sense is, why did the IC belt keep its lineage and the other question I have is does the United States Championship have the same lineage of the WCW US Title? Hell is the new World Heavyweight Championship suppose to be the old World Heavyweight Title/NWA World Championship/WCW World Title/World Heavyweight Championship?

They selectively reference the WCW United States Title, but last I checked they do not use the lineage on dot com. World Heavyweight Championship also does not have the old title's lineage on the website either.

The lineages meant a lot to the belts and it just feels now they're props that exist for narrative purposes only.

Wrestling isn’t real. Just waive a magic wand and fix it.
They know what history the fans want just say Hornswoggle did it. Fix it and move on.

The latest name changes to the tag titles now means that there have been three different titles with three different lineages called the WWE Tag Team Championships.
-The first was the original WWF World Tag Team Championships, which were briefly called the WWE Tag Team Championships from May of 2002 (when WWF became WWE), until the fall of 2002 (when these titles became known as the World Tag Team Championships.
-The current World Tag Team Championships were originally introduced in the fall of 2002 as the WWE Tag Team Championships, and pretty much kept that name until the fall of 2016, when they became known as the Raw Tag Team Championships.
-The titles currently known as the WWE Tag Team Championships were originally introduced as the Smackdown Tag Team Championships in the fall of 2016.
So, depending on which year you’re watching, any one of the above titles were called the WWE Tag Team Championships at one point. I hope this all made sense, because I might have confused myself a little bit.
