Two interesting posts from the thundering dumbass that is Bushiroad CEO Takaaki Kidani. This guy couldn't put together a proper video game deal to save his life, and is one of the big reasons why there is a western influence in New Japan, despite Gedo and Tana getting all the heat for it. When he's not tanking his company's value, he's lamenting the choices that have led to negative feedback.
For clearer context, the first tweet is the response to a fan poll that asked which match should main event Dominion, arguably NJPW's second-biggest show of the year. Running away with over 80% of the vote is the BOSJ Finals, while Mox/EVIL for the world title is at just under 15% at this time. I don't disagree with this, as ticket sales have treaded downward tour-over-tour this year, but Kidani somberly notes "we must take this result seriously" as though he was shocked to learn that a part-time gaijin defending against EVIL would not be a stronger hit with native fans.
The second tweet comes across as an apology with the translation being "Recently, we have received a lot of feedback from fans regarding New Japan Pro-Wrestling. We are truly sorry about everything that has happened. Please wait for a little while. Thank you for your patience." Which has to be the most no-vote of confidence comment I've ever heard from a CEO. Now, this may also have to do with the fan club info leak and website issues, which from a business perspective are also major problems. However, Bushiroad leader apologizing for an entire company's troubles is painful to say the least.
Again, I'm the biggest New Japan apologist on this site, but Kidani and Co. need to get their shit together. End the Mox title run, put the emphasis back on native talent post-Forbidden Door and head into G1 season with the mindset to grow the youth between the summer and Wrestle Kingdom 19. Lucky for them the yen being bad is a scapegoat for everyone, and NOAH/AJPW have had worse programming in 2024 to distance the competition. Dragongate has been spectacular to start the year though, and is outperforming ticket expectations despite everything, so I highly recommend that to anyone looking for a puroresu fix while New Japan sorts themselves out.

New Japan is in trouble, I'll admit that. Attendance is down, talent are leaving and being signed by other companies and there doesn't seem to be a direction.

The direction is more House of Turture Pretty much. Seems like the fallback is always EVIL getting some kind of title or title shot, which is just plain awful.

Evil has failed every time they tried pushing him since 2020, at one point they should realize it and cut their losses. With matches that have been mediocre at best and god awful at worst. They even had him ruin Naito's big Wrestle Kingdom moment despite the fans making it clear they don't want him.
Why is Sabre not getting the World Title shot at Dominion? Or Naito getting his return match?

Gedo is unfortunately the "go down with the ship" type when it comes to certain people. It's been EVIL and Finlay for a while now.

Yeah, in 2020 when he won The NJC and then defeated Naito, a lot of people were interested in him. Then they decided he needed WCW 2000 style booking

Has the rise of the new musketeers stalled already? G1 stalled that and despite Tsuji's NJC win it hasn't gotten better. Gedo's even managed to f*** up Yuya just as bad as the others. It doesn't help that they took away everything about EVIL that made him interesting, and just made him Generic Grunt Brute Heel #7163. Basically he's reverted to pre-NJPW Takaaki Watanabe, just with the fancy all-capitals name. Which is sad. Even "Naito's spooky friend" was better.

LIJ in general doesn't feel like the fun "Brotherhood of Weirdos" that it was pre-pandemic anymore. There's nothing wrong with Shingo, and Tsuji should have already won the belt by now, but they don't bring the _weird_ the way that LIJ used to. Not to insult them by bringing WWE into it, but pre-pandemic LIJ were the blueprint for Pre-McDonaugh Judgment Day.
