Ziggler really seemed the night of Survivor Series 2014 that he was going to win the rumble and headline Mania against Brock. Then at the Rumble he got dumped by the local men and that was that. Really f***ing hate looking back at that era we could currently be nostalgic for and realize how it was largely horribly booked out of spite for the audience. Since Roman was getting Brock regardless, he didn't need the Rumble win. So Ziggler made a ton of sense, just too bad there was one world title at the time. Him going after the World Champion to get his belt back would've been great for him in 2015.

14 Survivor Series win felt like the hottest for me and should have been the launch pad to being a permanent main eventer. He was definitely, along with Bryan & Ambrose, one of the hottest babyfaces around and could have won the 15 Rumble but Vince was set on Roman and that was that.
I do think Survivor Series was more of a vehicle to get Sting, Cena & HHH over more than Ziggler however. He seemed to be put into that position because WWE knew fans would cheer him more unanimously than Cena. I don’t think WWE expected him to get over as much as he did from the win.

The peak of Dolph was when he cashed in the MITB and became WHC. Ziggler had a lot of momentum back in 2012-2013 as he was in the main event scene while winning the MITB and WHC and had a big win over John Cena at TLC 2012. Plus he was the 2nd top heel in WWE behind CM Punk at the time. Sadly his injuries during that run prevented him to being a bigger deal in WWE and he went back into the upper-midcard scene throughout his run with the company.
