When yall were kids and had to hook up the cable or something. Did your parents ever really overestimate how good you were with that type of stuff. I remember when I was a kid or even now in 2007 I would hook up the cable and they would be like "hes gonna be an engineer or something". Its like two cables! One into the cable box and from the cable box into the TV.
I got reminded of it cause a few minutes ago I was having to turn off the water and undo the sink, then unscrew the door thing under there and they was like "you gonna be a plumber or a carpenter?" and they werent even like saying it to joke around. All I had to do was turn some bolts and unscrew a few nails...

Have you broken something in the past? All it takes is one mishap for parents to not trust you to do anything anymore. As for the original posters comment, yeah, my parents used to say the same thing all the time. Plus, when I did their surround sound wiring for their living room, and was up in the attic and dropping cables, my dad was wondering outloud why I never used those type of skills to get a job, since I should be doing something technical and not artsy. :\

My parents think that because I'm on the computer, where I'm usually surfing, that I can get a job programming or something.

People tend to think that just because I'm young I am some kind of computer expert, when the truth is I didn't even own a damn computer until about three years ago. It's at least partially my fault though, since I don't actually deny it. Instead, when someone asks me a computer related question I just answer with some vague techno babble and hope they leave me alone. I really should stop doing that.

for some reason it has always been my "job" in the house to program vcrs, set up internet, install computer programs-anything like that is my responsibity. i do ok most of the time, but sometimes i just say Call a Professional, i don't wanna screw it up.
