Im an idiot and heres why. Everytime a name game comes out that I have been waiting for (Madden, Nba 2k, Smackdown vs Raw) basically any game that comes out every year like an idiot I go and trade in some old games/Dvds for it. You might be thinking whats so wrong with trading in old games for a new one? Basically the games aren't old, they are maybe a couple months old and still sell for full price.
Well take last year for example. I had waited for the new Smackdwon game to come out all year and when it finally did I was broke! I ended up taking 43 dvds! Yes 43 Dvds to Gamestop and trading them in towards the game! I ended up getting like 50 bucks for 43 dvdS!!! Granted most of them were older, I did have a few that if you went to Walmart to buy they would cost around 15 dollars!
Also this Summer I just bought this game called Call Of Juarez and i loved it. I had it for 2 weeks and played it alot but then the NCAA game came out and yet again i didnt want to spend 65 dollars on a game so i traded it in. I spent 65 on Call of Juarez two weeks before and got 20 dollars in store credit!
I could go on and on but that my friends is why im an idiot....
Anyone else has this problem?
Im thinking about trading in Nascar 08 ( 2 weeks old) and All Pro Football ( about a month old ) For Madden...
thats about 125 dollars for two game that are a month old, and I would get about 45 dollars store credit...
im a sucker

Broke or not, I will never under any circumstances trade or sell my old games, because I always know that I'll want to play them again when I get sick of the new crap. I'm usually patient enough to wait for the inevitable price drop, no matter how badly I want a new game.

Well for one sports games will never trade in good, but you can get in some decent money off God of War 2, Zelda etc. I mean I'm not going to need these, most the new gen systems will have backwards compatability and God of War 1 is not going to give you a nostalgia rush. I beat it, why not get rid of it? Now getting rid of DVDs is kinda dumb to me.

I never trade in because it's just a rip off its only been profitable to me once. I went to hastings, and sometimes they have really cheap barely used games. Luckily, they did, and they were on sale. It was like 3 for $15. I bought them and played them, and beat two of them. One was Indigo Prophecy(I am happy I bought it used), Silent Hill 2(never beat it), and I can't remember the third game. About 2 months later, my PS2 went caput, and I traded my barely used GC, 3 games, a memory card, mic and 2 controllers, and about 6 PS2 games for a new PS2. Out of those 6 PS2 games where the Hastings games. I peeled off the Hastings stickers, and actually got MORE at gamestop than I paid for them. They were doing some sale or something, were you got an extra 40% on trade ins or something.

Trading in games/DVD/CDs has only worked out decently for me once, and that was when I recently traded in a bunch of CDs I had because I already had them backed up in 4 other ways (PC, iPod, external HD, burned DVDs). And even then, I only got about $60 for 18 CDs or so. Trading in video games is a scam 99% of the time, same with DVDs.

I've never traded in anything... in fact, most of the games and even DVD's I buy are trade-ins or else I go through good ol' Amazon.com's sellers and buy factory sealed ones for dirt cheap. (Nothing beats picking up Escape from New York: Special Edition for $11 (with shipping) or Starchaser: The Legend of Odin for around $10 (with shipping).
Plus I'll watch about anything, so I'll hit up Dollar Generals or Ollies and snag stuff like Natural Born Killers, Night Shift starring Henry Winkler and Action Jackson for like $4-$5.
As for games... I'm way behind on systems (64/PS are the latest I got), so I hit up yard sales. I snagged one of hte Final Fantasties for $1.50, Diddy Kong Racing for $7, a NES that looks brand new with 9 games, the cables, two controllers, the Zapper and the Joystick controller for $5. Oh... and I snagged two X-Box controllers for a friend for $2 each since mice chewed up his old ones... one had a memory card in it still.

You trade in a game and get less than half for what you paid, then they turn around and sell it for 5 dollars than then they would if its brand new... Amazing

you traded 43 dvds for one game??
you're just dumb man, thats like, over 500 dollars... for a game.
im not trying to be mean, but use some common sense, if you say they still sell for 15 dollars at walmart... then go, exchange it for a new one since they don't care about reciepts, then return it for the 15 dollars.
i have nothing else to add, im in shock, 43 dvds for one game
