I was in NYC last fall, and went to the Comedy Cellar in the Village - there was some good acts and some bad acts, and Artie Fuqua was compére (have seen him on lots of VH1 talking heads shows, but never seen his act, which was pretty decent).
However, the 'name' on the show was Dave Attell, who I found to be poisonously unfunny - blue without the comedy, timing way waaaaayyyyyy off, pissed off at the audience for 'not getting him'.
What's your opinion of this comedian that apparently is very well thought of? I've never seen him before, living in the UK as I do, but had heard of him and knew he has had TV shows.

I tend to like his stand-up, he may have had an off night. I dunno.

I think he's hilarious. Loved his show on Comedy Central.

I got the impression that it was his standard kind of act... at first people were laughing, as they were warmed up by the guy whose set came directly before, and then by Artie Fuqua... but then... the laughter died.

He had a pretty funny show called Insomniac, but his stand up isn't that great, he isnt the worst but he isn't that great.

I wouldn't mind if Insomniac got another run. Other than that his comedy is pretty gnarly.. almost too gnarly for my tastes, but still he's hella funny.

I don't care for his stand-up, but I found him hilarious on Insomniac, so there's that.

I saw his stand-up act a few years ago, and when my friends and I left, my sides hurt and I had tears streaming down my face. Oh, and nothing bad happened, so I guess that means I liked it.
