because really they never did anything bad.
all they did was preach peace, why can't we have a group of people like that anymore? it's like peace has gone out of style.
and what's with all the hippie bashing? what have hippies ever done to you? I bet they probaby did nothing, and if they did do something they'd probably apologize and in return offer you some LSD for your troubles so that you can see what the "real" world is like.

I'll try not m ake this political at all. But here is why Hippies became somewhat reviled.
Many people subscribe to what is known as "the middle ground fallacy". That is what the show South Park likes do and people subscribe to it cause they don't know any better. The middle ground fallacy is that somebody says "well there's two sides to this issue. Obviously both sides are bad, nether is right(or vice versa both sides good and right), so both are equally bad, the hippies and the hawks"
So hippies by default get contempt from middle ground fallacy-ers. Which is what many many people are and some don't even realize it.

Hippies are basically naive stupid white college students with rich parents who have yet to understand why promiscuity, communes and drug use don't work very well for people who aren't naive stupid white college students with rich parents. If you want proof, find a black hippie. or find out where they all went in the 1970's economic crisis. And their kind goes back at least to the Romanticism of the 1820s, albeit with a different exterior. The only reason they were a force in the 1960s is that their were a lot more stupid college kids in the 1960s, and they were the first since the 1920s.
