As some of you know, I have been at my new University for almost 2 weeks now. In that space of time, not much has happened. Only now is the period where we actually settle in to work and enrolment and all that crazy jazz and before we start lessons. One thing that annoys me first off is all the parties. Party over at one flat one night, party at the Union the next, it sometimes gets to the point where you don't want to bother anymore. Yea, it's something to do, but I'm just not into doing it every day. I'd rather go out somewhere else or something.
Another thing, and this might sound desperate, but I have yet to feel like I belong anywhere. Even with my own flatmates, it's just difficult because I always feel like that extra wheel that doesn't belong. It's just hard for me to get into conversations.
On here, I'm great. I joke around and I have a great time. In real life, though, I always feel like I don't belong. It's been like this since Secondary School really and it's really annoying. I just want to be outspoken and broad but I just don't know how people will react. Maybe they won't care, but I can't just bring myself to do it.
Here's the real killer, though. The real cherry on the top.
I don't drink alcohol. Or Smoke.
And those are pretty much what everyone does at Uni.
So it's just the case of everyone going 'Go on, Eoin, take a sip' and I just can't do it. I know, it's a part of college/uni life to drink but it's just not in me to do so. I pretty much decided that when I turned 18 that I just couldn't bring myself to drink.
Yeah, I'm just raving on and I might be trying too hard to rush into Uni life, but it's just what I'm feeling right now and I just want to get it out.

The partying thing will calm down when most people realize they need to pass.
Also, you'll start to find people who will accept that you don't drink or smoke. You'll be fine, just give it time and don't get down yet.

You should have a drink and a smoke and calm down.

This problem "I just want to be outspoken and broad but I just don't know how people will react. Maybe they won't care, but I can't just bring myself to do it." would be solved by correcting this problem "I don't drink alcohol"
Not that I encourage you to drink or anything, I'm just saying is all.

That's just basically saying 'Drink and you'll be like everyone else' And that would be having hangovers almost everyday and maybe falling behind on work? No thanks.

It's actually a nice challenge. I have a flatmate who's fluent in French, Spanish and German and is really just learning English. He's great to chat to, he really is.

You should get girls to drink, and have secks with them. That way you don't drink, you don't smoke, and you get to see bewbs! Dont forget to use rubbber no matter what they say.
Aisde from that, I suggest you just start staying stuff. I mean, unless you're saying Mein Kempf inspires you to do big things in the world, nobody is going to think any less of you. Heck, maybe these people feel the same way. Or like to do something but havent mentioned it yet. Once class starts going, you'll be in classes with people similar to you. So, take advantage of that.
Aside from that, either buy a self help book, or start going to the gym. I find working out gives you confidence to say stuff because you feel better about yourself.

Join clubs. I don't know your interests but I'm sure there are some student-run clubs out there that might peek your interest. I joined martial arts club and anime club way back when. A sci fi club started later but I was too far into school (i.e., in graduate school, with a job) to join All that's pretty much going to happen in about a weeks time but it'll probably happen. So basically, things will be better...hopefully.
